Am I in the wrong or unreasonable?

My dp asked me what I wanted for xmas and I asked for a pair of ghd straightners. He went out shopping today and came back in and said that he had got me a pair of ehd straightners as recommended by Boots and was that ok. When I said not really - he went all huffy and I ended up apologising for him not getting me the one thing I asked for at his behest. Am I being too ultra or unreasonable??
I live with Mr Gadget in a house overflowing with his computers/flat screens to put this in some sort of context

ROFL at "I took him to Paris. He bought me a torch"

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/12/2006 23:11

DP has just said "I think they are being unreasonable" pmsl!

WigWamBam · 14/12/2006 23:13

I should have got out then, while I still could

Dd seems to be taking after him in most things, so I won't be holding my breath that she starts buying me nice presents in the future ...

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 14/12/2006 23:26

Christ, WWB, don't let him buy the Christmas turkey, whatever you do!

Am actually crying with laughter at this thread

whatwouldjesusdo · 14/12/2006 23:27

no Wigwam, this is something she will learn at her mother's knee. She will learn it from you, and a jolly good thing too!!

Caroligula · 14/12/2006 23:27

Oh VVVQV, that is so funny

It's even funnier when men get bewildered about it.

But why are they saying that? They're so unreasonable.

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 14/12/2006 23:28

Oh, WWB, you don't have much luck with presents do you? I am hoping with every fibre of my being that your MIL has got something gorgeous and expensive and decadent planned for your Christmas present, but I fear it'll be yet another MN classic

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/12/2006 23:43

He actually gave the "thumbs up" with BOTH thumbs at the torch ....

HollyandMistletoeforever · 14/12/2006 23:46

Love the piano WWB. And as for Paris vs Torch - read that one out to DH but couldn't as laughing too much!

For one of my birthdays my EX DP bought me...........

........ a frisbee.

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 14/12/2006 23:50

DH said that a torch is more than generous. VVV, I think that we should move in together and leave our menfolk to buy one another shite presents forevermore!

whatwouldjesusdo · 14/12/2006 23:50

(holly - there is a separate thread going at the moment for worst ever Xmas present from partner.. I think you have a contender to rival the baby changing bag and the Oxford English Dictionary.)

whatwouldjesusdo · 14/12/2006 23:51

Oh well thats his present sorted for this year then aardvaark.

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 15/12/2006 00:04

He has a torch (NOT a present from me, I hasten to add!). But otherwise, yes, fab present - he'd like that, I'm sure

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/12/2006 00:10

You can never have too many torches.......

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 15/12/2006 00:16

If only to join "baying mob" threads, eh, VVV

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/12/2006 00:49

ROFL!!!!

wickedwinterwitch · 15/12/2006 01:59

lol at this thread, esp Paris and piano and curling tongs!

does that make the wrong type of straigteners slightly less of a faux pas Mercedes? I think you should be miffed but not too cross and shoudl make him change them.

gingernutlover · 15/12/2006 06:56

yes I would be annoyed as sooooooo much diff between ghd and anythijg else but let him down gently

swedishmum · 15/12/2006 10:10

Presents for me have been much better since my two older daughters have been Christmas shopping with dh! Last year I got an electric guitar/amp etc. Dh thought I'd be an expert, being a music teacher, so bought me Hendrix and Guns'n'Roses music. He was rather disappointed when all I could manage on Xmas morning was The Wheels on the Bus! I love playing it though. As long as I don't get a drum kit this year.....

WigWamBam · 15/12/2006 10:39

Dh actually thought that the torch was romantic and thoughtful, that's the stupid thing.

"You might break down in the car, and if you keep the torch in the door pocket it would mean you could call the AA quicker".

He gave me sticky fixers to stick it to the door and everything ...

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 15/12/2006 11:54

Aww, WWB, that's really sweet. It made me go "ahhh"

NOELallie · 15/12/2006 12:36

I think that's quite sweet too. DH ought me a mobile phone for the same reason...but i never charged i up or bought thingys for it so I still don't have one. Have to borrow DH's when I'm going on a long drive on my own which is stupid really.

skye24 · 15/12/2006 13:28

Your lucky one christmas opening all presents GD turned and said ' you havnt got many presents nan' dh looked around, 'oh I forgot, yours is till under the bed'!
(Boots which I had to go buy, but thought he might manage to wrap himself)
To make it even worse, we had only been married a month!
At least he cooks all xmas dinner and washes up afterwards

UniSarah · 15/12/2006 17:50

Long long ago my parents went out to get mum a handbag for a presnt, they camne home with a baby grand piano. Still much loved and played while a 1970s handbag would have long been dicarded.
Dh suregsted yesterday that he might like... what I've already ordered him. Guess I got it right this year.

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 15/12/2006 19:57

Poor WWB you don't have much luck with presents !
