I usually go by sight but I want to order one on line - any idea what weight in kg I would need to feed 6 people? I was going to order a Bernard Matthews one from Tesco - can anyone recommend them or otherwise?

the bernard mathews ones are not much cop- if you are going to get one online i would try m&s or somewhere like that. would say for six people with good appetites prob about 3lb in weight

I've just bought on for 6 adults & 1 big appetited 5 yr old at 5.5 lbs will do 2 days with a nice ham on Boxing day to eke out.

wangle99 · 14/12/2006 07:42

omg I think our butcher has told us we need too big a piece, obviously realised I knew nothing.

He told me for 4 adults and 2 children I'd need an 8lb piece (or was it 6lb??) argh can't remember.

Look like loads of leftovers then lol

jenkel · 14/12/2006 08:39

We have ordered a 6lb one from our butcher for 6 adults, 4 year old and 2 year old.

Also have ham and beef for Boxing day.

moondog · 14/12/2006 08:42

So,it's a roasted mastectomy for dinner eh TTT?

Smashing.

kslatts · 14/12/2006 09:12

Think I've also over ordered, we are going to my Mum's for dinner, but I have ordered the turkey from our work canteen as we get it at cost price. There is going to be 9 of us and I ordered 6 kilo of breast, hope it fits in Mum's oven.

TwoToTango · 14/12/2006 13:40

Thanks all - played it safe and went to Asda and bought a very nice looking 5.5lb crown.

I have ordered the turkey crown from M&S, we had it last year and it was really gorgeous!!! Worth the money imo.

GlennCloseAsCruellaDeVille · 14/12/2006 13:43

not much different from a roasted corpse or roasted limb amputation, is it moondaog?

all just cuts of meat

TwoToTango · 14/12/2006 14:11

I feel like i've missed something in this thread, have I upset a vegetarian?

Anyone deciding where to get their turkey/turkey crowns from, how about supporting your local butcher and not the big 'birds' like supermarkets.
Supermarkets are forever squeezing the life out of independent businesses.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/12/2021 09:27

Putting aside all the arguments about eating meat and where you shop, I'm sure that will be plenty OP.

If you have leftovers that's not an issue either because surely you'll be wanting turkey sandwiches and plates of cold cuts with cheese, pork pie, pickles etc?

I always slice and freeze any leftover turkey after a couple of days and then reheat it with gravy later on to have with roast dinners without having to cook and buy a new joint.

Luminousnose · 10/12/2021 09:36

We’ll be seven and I’ve ordered a 14 pounder Grin. Cold turkey the next day, possibly turkey curry, and turkey soup! All good.

Luminousnose · 10/12/2021 09:36

Oh, one is vegetarian - so that’ll be six of us.
