So how many times do u re-arrange the Xmas that your toddler had made a mess of it?

as ive had the fake tree up since last Saturday, the tree decors had been rearranged about 10 times by my 26m old dd which i dont mind (but i do mind when she rip the boxes up!)....now she pulled the tree down as she was trying to get a cone off (as ive got cones, boxes, big glittery snowflakes, glittery stars and baubles all in different colours)

so now im gonna rearrange the whole tree as its a mess now!

do u think i should put a Jack in the box hidden inside the tree

oh joy!

how many times is an average for you to rearrange whole tree??

Daily basis I think, although I wait till shes gone to bed so as not to upset her arrangement.

This year we don't have a christmas tree up as we are moving house next week. Although I am sad aout it, I am also a little bit pleased as I know ds (2 next week) would simply destroy it.

paulaplumpbottom · 13/12/2006 12:55

Get a small fake tree that they can rearrange to their hearts content, but tell them to keep out of the others,

Twiglett · 13/12/2006 12:56

I think you should teach her not to touch the christmas tree

just keep saying no and distract her

honestly ... she'll be at every single tree if you let her

it only takes a few sharp 'no's' and a little consistency and she'll be safe in anyone's house

I'd be horrified at a 2 year old dicking around with my christmas tree .. its to look at not to touch

poppiesinalinewithtinsel · 13/12/2006 13:04

LOL I've been putting off putting our tree up this year for that very reason! What with DS2 and the cats I have no hope!!

IlanaK · 13/12/2006 13:13

We have a smaller tree that is on top of our tv cabinet. Partly it is due to lack of space, but partly I don't want to spend all my time telling the boys not to touch it. However, I agree with Twiglett that it it is wrong to let a two year old, or any child for that matter, think that it is ok to touch everyone else's trees. There are so many in the shops around us, and our building has two in the lobby. I keep reminding my two year old that they are for looking at, but not touching. Don't get me wrong - he does touch. But I also regularly remind him that it is not ok.

I have had a smaller fibre optic tree for the past few years when ds2 was very little. Now he is 2.8yrs I got a real one.

The only problem now is the puppy. She is generally very good but must not be able to resist at times, she waits until I leave the room and snatches a bit of tinsel and just runs off with it.

This in turn excites the 2yr old and the 6yr old and leaves me screaming at them about taking the tree down

3 times this happend yesterday, only once today, thankfully.

MerryBiglipsmas · 13/12/2006 20:19

well its the first time she pulled the tree down (well she tried to get the cone off and got abit heavy handed!) and hadnt done it so ill wait till the next time and then it be a serious word with the little one

Best thing I ever did was get some little people toys when DS was a baby and they sit under the tree..work a treat as a distraction from the actual tree!!!

Donk · 13/12/2006 20:41

Our tree went into the playpen when ds was 2 and again when he was 3 (his b'day is just before Xmas)...... which limited the damage.

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 13/12/2006 20:42

I used to put mine inside the playpen when mine were very little, but later they learned not to touch. I do remember my sister's Ds carefully unwrapping all the chocoate baubles & leaving the wrapping hanging from the tree

WHEELYbahhumBUG · 13/12/2006 20:46

I thought dd (23 months) had been surprisingly good with our tree this year. However, I hadn't noticed, until I came down from putting her to bed, the few baubles and pile of pine needles on the floor under the tree ! Grrrrrr....

MerryBiglipsmas · 13/12/2006 21:50

oh no Wheeley

BUT whats strange and she was younger last Xmas she didnt even bother with the Xmas tree at all - well just once - and i was so surprised, but this year its not happening!!!!!

im so glad i didnt get a real tree or i would've of gone bonkers!!!

never, but I am a coward and put little tree on high up unreachable surface. i am always in awe of those people who have big trees and train toddlers not to touch them.

MerryBiglipsmas · 15/12/2006 15:47

madam....are u willing to come to my house and train mine up! ...

she hadnt touch the tree since as i think it did scare her but just waiting.......!

sorry but I agree with Twiglett! Ds is 16 months and has learnt not to touch it. It took a lot of "no"'s and distraction but he can now be left safely in the room alone with it without causing havoc!

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 15/12/2006 15:56

I love Twiglett.

Miaou · 15/12/2006 15:57

Just Twiglett? Not me then?

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 15/12/2006 15:58

If you want me to stalk your every post then I shall love you too!

Miaou · 15/12/2006 16:00

I thank you

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 15/12/2006 16:02

You may bow if you so wish.

MerryBiglipsmas · 15/12/2006 16:21

miaou - last Xmas when dd was 14m old - she was spot on...she was very good and didnt even bother it but this year she likes to tell me whats on the tree. As i said she had barely touched the tree since it fell but im not hoping it wont happen again
