Ideas for Xmas table centrepiece?

We're hosting this year and is love to make the table look a little bit special without splashing out too much. I'm not very crafty but happy to have a go at DIY if it's simple! Thinking gold spray painted pine cones for example...

Any ideas or things that have worked for you much appreciated!

This year I'm doing upside down wine glasses with baubles in and a votive candle on the top. They shouldn't take up too much room either and I can coordinate the baubles with my Christmassy tablecloth.

I've seen other pictures where they've used different wineglasses to give different heights and shapes so I'll experiment.

DD1 and DD2 have sprayed and glittered sone pincones silver and I will help them make some pomanders by sticking some cloves into oranges.

Thinking of using them as a centrepiece in a bowl with some fresh holly maybe. Would love a better idea on how the DC can make a centre piece

We are doing a little wooden santa train along the middle of the table with a thin dinner candle at each end. That way it wont take up too much space and still allow the table cloth that Mil is making to be seen. I love the wine glasses however but wouldnt have any for wine glasses for the table and would have to strip xmas tree for baubles.

This our first attempt at hosting and i want a beautiful table, so watching with interest.

I always plan for a stunning table but by the time all the food is out I may as well not have bothered: any centrepieces end up on the sideboard and I'm always worried about candles and crackers/paper hats.
This year I'm simplifying back to tablecloth, runner, crackers.

Alcohol.

Thank you for these lovely ideas-I really like the upside down wine glasses. Last year we got everyone to serve themselves in the kitchen so the table wasn't crammed with dishes. One thing I've got to be careful of is our toddler pulling on the tablecloth and upsetting candles . Maybe I need those battery ones for a few years...

I always thought whats the point of led candles - then i had kids! I have loads of them out and it certainly makes the house feel festive.

This year we are putting the table in the playroom (have an eat in kitchen) and the kids craft table is being turned into the food service area - this should solve the too much stuff on the table problem. Toddler will be in a high chair to solve the pulling the tablecloth problem.
