Inspire me, what are you getting your DH/DP? (or give me gift ideas!)

I'm really really struggling for ideas for DH. He doesn't really 'do' clothes shopping, he recently bought himself a new coat in the sale which was the only thing he needed. He's in to cycling, but seriously and the kit he likes is bloody expensive is pretty specialised and I'm unlikely to get it right (plus he's being sponsored this year so is getting lots of freebies).

For last birthday I got him cufflinks (managed to get some made that were special to him), last Christmas a watch, and birthday before I got a framed print of the lyrics to his favourite song.

I'm all out of ideas - so shamelessly hoping to steal yours!

I've bought DP a voucher for the local posh wine shop so in the new year we can go and choose a few different bottles of lovely vino. I will prob get him something small to open on Xmas day as well. Tho not got that far yet!

ComeInBaldrick · 29/11/2015 08:24

Impractical jokers tour tickets
Dads army box set
Lego

Can't remember what else I've got him...

WiryElevator · 29/11/2015 08:25

A pair of Ted Baker trousers

Eminybob · 29/11/2015 08:25

Just little bits this year now we have a DC.

Michael McIntyre DVD, some football film DVD about Brian Clough and a sons of anarchy t shirt.

JemimaMuddledUp · 29/11/2015 08:29

DH and I decided to buy each other a hotel stay in the new year as a Christmas present. We are both really difficult to buy for. Last year we bought each other Rugby World Cup tickets.

I have also bought him a CD so that he has something to open on Christmas Day.

maamalady · 29/11/2015 08:39

My DH is getting a jumper, chocolates, and a new road ID as our phone number has changed.

Road IDs are a great idea for regular cyclists, and they have a Black Friday sale on too:

curriegirl · 29/11/2015 09:02

We didn't plan on much but the pile is growing

Bryan ferry tickets
R2d2 hat
T shirt
Socks
Molton brown set

Mydearchild · 29/11/2015 09:10

jemima That's what dh and I do. It's become a tradition that we have a night away just the two of us either just before or the week between Xmas and new year. This year we are going back Bath which we love.

Davros · 29/11/2015 09:24

What about one of those swegway things whatever they're called. You know, like a skateboard but electric or just a skateboard?
Rapha?
Philosophy football - brilliant, original t-shirts. DH loves his Cantona one "when the seagulls ...."

YellowDinosaur · 29/11/2015 12:13

Does he have a turbo trainer to train indoors? My dh is also cycling mad and found this great to train when the kids are in bed and I'm out. You could get one in your budget. Dh has an all singing all dancing one that connects to the computer and allows him to virtually do tour De France climbs. That was about £300 so more than you were looking for though!

If he has one already how about a box set to watch while on it?

If he mostly does road cycling what about a session at a velodrome? Or if track cycling a mountain biking session?

Or if you have small kids and he struggles to find time a book of vouchers made by you promising him a number of days out?

weaselwords · 29/11/2015 13:31

Old guys rule t shirt. Got one for brother in law too so got free cuff links. Some posh aftershave. Some furry socks and um... Need to think of something "main" but can only think of a steamer trunk to put all his crap in but can't find one.

MrsJamesFraser · 29/11/2015 13:44

Have bought DP -

  • Chanel Allure (150ml bottle as he sprays it like deodorant sometimes!)
  • A Crosley Briefcase Turntable which I'm really excited to give him. His mum passed away 13 years ago and recently his grandmother have him a beautiful record she played as a child. Very sentimental and can't wait until he can play it on Christmas morning.

Will grab other bits and bobs, chocolate, running gloves, bulldog toiletries as little stocking fillers.

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2015 13:44

If anyone like F1, there is an amazing lighting deal on RIGHT NOW for a
book about F1 circuits...

Pebbles601 · 29/11/2015 13:52

My DH is exactly the same! I got him cycling jeans that I saw on Facebook. They look pretty good, have a bit that zips open at the back to make them reflective. If he ever commutes or rides casually at times that could be an idea. Actually now I think about it, all his presents are cycling related!

Djelibeyb · 29/11/2015 13:56

Mine is a geek and it's also his birthday soon. My presents are unique and include:
A star wars mug
Ghostbusters board game
Quantum leap dvdbox set
Atlas of Discworld

Doubt any of that is much use to anyone else Grin

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2015 14:01

Thing explainer by Randall Munroe is AMAZING for anyone who likes science or technology.

JustTheOneThanks · 29/11/2015 14:30

Thanks for sharing that link red i have just bought it for DP Smile

EnglishRose1320 · 29/11/2015 14:56

My Dp is very hard to buy for, he also has expensive tastes. So far I have literally only got him a chocolate orange and a Toblerone. However he wants a leatherman, Swiss army knife and space pen- but very specific types, which I am somehow expected to know which ones! Will probably get him a couple of books as well. He also wants some new clothes but is very fussy. From our dc's I am going to get him a dad's joke book because they always moan his jokes are bad and a paracord project book with some more paracord.

DinosaursRoar · 29/11/2015 15:20

oh thank you for the additional ideas! Already has a turbo - the issue with bike related gubbins is he just goes buy things as he needs them for cycling.

He's given me an idea. He wants dark brown jeans, yet each of the over 20 pairs I found online yesterday to show him were all wrong for some reason or another. Hmm

A hotel stay would be lovely - just while family are all more than happy to have DC1 (who slept through from 8 weeks), funnily enough no one is all that keen on having my non-sleeping 2.5 year old DC2 for the night.

DinosaursRoar · 29/11/2015 15:27

oh and Yellow - he gets enough time off to cycle, I'm not pandering any more than i do already!

I am warming to the idea of either a unicycle - or putting together a hamper myself, with things he likes from lots of little places - mainly because I can think of around 20 small things he'd really like, but not a big thing. (on that theme, has anyone seen a nice spicy carrot chuntey anywhere? He used to love one we got at a garden centre near us but they don't stock it anymore).

Some great ideas on here, I've added a Wallet Ninja to my Amazon basket as I know DH would definitely use it.

This year he is getting:

  • Boss hoodie and All Saints top
  • Socks (he actually gets upset if he doesn't get socks)
  • New wallet
  • Amazon Fire TV thing with monthly subscription as there's a few series on there he'd like to watch
  • Book on the origin of sayings as he's always asking me where sayings come from and I have idea because I am not a walking encyclopaedia
EnglishRose1320 · 29/11/2015 15:48

Spicy carrot chutney

www.yumbles.com/heathers-harvest/spiced-carrot-chutney-3-pack.html

Only available in a 3 pack but you can mix and match with any of their jams, marmalades or chutneys

StrawberrytallCake · 29/11/2015 16:55
