Help with gift for my mum.

Epicly difficult Mum where gifts are concerned. Likes receiving gifts and won't hear of any suggestions we not do gifts. However, she has clear rules about what she doesn't want.

  • No books, music or DVDs.
  • No food.
  • 'Can't be bothered' to go out, so no tickets to anywhere, no experience days.
  • Doesn't enjoy cooking.
  • Has no hobbies.
  • No clothing or accessories.
  • Doesn't like or use beauty products.

I am stumped.

Wine?

thatsn0tmyname · 18/11/2015 21:30

Well, that just leaves gardening stuff , magazine subscriptions or a charitable donation.

A Dog Grin

Paperblank · 18/11/2015 21:49

I'd go with a magazine subscription or ask her what she'd like as you are considering donating to a charity in her name instead of a gift! She'll come up with something then.

Or adopt her a panda....

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 18/11/2015 21:52

How old is she? does she live alone or with anyone else and what kind of home does she live in? does it have a garden or outside space?

Allgunsblazing · 18/11/2015 21:55

A bonsai and a pair of scissors?

ArthurChristmas · 18/11/2015 21:55

Watching very carefully. That's my mil, are you my SIL Grin and I'm stumped too. I am considering a puzzle book subscription at the moment as I am that desperate!!!!

A tea cozy

BikeRunSki · 18/11/2015 22:09

I got my mum a 3 month subscription to Bloom and Wild last year - she got fresh flowers delivered every month for 3 months. She loved it.

tassisssss · 18/11/2015 22:12

Wow, not a lot of options left there!

One of those beanbag trays?

Flowers? Something for the house like a new mug/cake plate?

Do you have kids? Things they've made?? Magazine subscription?

nilbyname · 18/11/2015 22:23

Shit the bed are you my long lost sibling?! This is my mother too!

Will watch with interest.

So far my mum is getting some perfume. And maybe a day out in London, if I can persuade her!

Saukko · 21/11/2015 13:11

She doesn't garden, read magazines or have any interests :( Kind of a whole other issue, really. She watches TV, that's it, but doesn't want box sets because she can get anything she wants On Demand.

I looked over some subscription boxes but she doesn't use or do... things.

What's worse is I've been asking for weeks now and she keeps saying she's too busy to think of anything, yet she's the only person I've ever known who gets visibly and loudly angry and upset if the presents aren't good enough!

I'm thinking a charity goat but I'm going to keep feeling festive :) Something will come up on Hotdeals eventually.

Book her a massage?

myotherusernameisbetter · 21/11/2015 13:44

Something practical or decorative is all that's left, so:

A new purse
Shopping bag
reading lamp
slippers
Nice picture frame made up with photos of you/siblings when you were young
Duvet set
gift voucher
jewelry or does that come under accessories?
individual coffee pod type thing
hamper made up with stuff for afternoon tea

myotherusernameisbetter · 21/11/2015 13:48

My mum loves fleece pyjamas and hand cream - job done!

more ideas:
hamper made up with some of her favourite foods/drinks
one of those robot hoovers so it can work while she watches tv
subscription to a decent tv guide
hot water bottle/pad
colouring book and pencils
stuff to learn to do crochet
all in one remote

LizzieMacQueen · 21/11/2015 14:22

How can she be so busy when she clearly has no hobbies?

Warmworm · 21/11/2015 17:36

Nice smelly candles or diffuser thingy for the house? Cosy blanket or throw?

Ningnang2000 · 22/11/2015 10:48

What's your budget?

We go a bit more because our mums help us out a lot with childcare. This year I'm getting her a vivofit. It has a step counter so I thought it would encourage her and my dad to get out for walks more. Previous years we got mil a kindle which she wasn't sure about at first but loves now. We've also done canvas's of the kids, family tree necklace

LongHardStare · 22/11/2015 14:39

An enormous box festively wrapped and filled with packing stuff.

Inside it an envelope with 'whatever you truly want for Christmas' written on it.

£50 in the envelope.

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 22/11/2015 20:37

If all else fails get her one of those little crates of Clementines with the leaves on. Very festive.

Although I'm anticipating that she doesn't eat fruit?

myotherusernameisbetter · 22/11/2015 20:42

sound bar for the tv?
