Family (board) game for adults, 7- and 5-year olds

Following on from threads earlier in the year about boards games, I have bought Quirkle, Dobble and Tantrix for the kids for Christmas.

But I can't help but think that they're a bit... educational. Fun, but still educational. I'd like to get them/us a bit more of a silly, pointless game to play.

Previous hits have been Labyrinth (though we're still not playing it "properly", with strategies, but the kids still love it), Busytown Eye-Spy, and Whatever Next. They love Pop-up Pirates, though are possibly growing out of it a bit by now. But I wouldn't want to play that all afternoon (I am very happy to do so with the other ones I've listed)

Any suggestions for suitable games?
I should add, that whislt I don't mind silly, I can't do gross - any game about snot or dog poo is vetoed Wink Grin

And nothing as tedious as Snakes & Ladders or Ludo, please :)

Thank you Flowers

Is the "new" Operation any good? (As opposed to the version I had 35 years ago..)
Reviews on Amazon seem awful :(

Frustration is just Ludo with a jumped up board and it doesn't even have the poppy thing any more Angry

I have heard "new" operation awful. Tesco do a version that is probably cheaper and v similar to the old operation.

I recommended on another thread but we really like Dixit. Also like playing that with adults only. It is not even slightly "worthy".

I've bought the family trivial pursuit, am hoping it goes down well

HuevosRancheros · 13/11/2015 16:32

Thanks Summer, I'll have a look in Tesco :)
I'll have a look into Dixit, too, thanks

Bertie that was what I concluded when reading up on Frustration.. Not for us, I don't think

Can I please apologise for starting this thread, I had no idea there was a similar one in DOTD Blush

That said, I've got some great ideas, so I'm not too sorry, thanks everyone Grin

Whoowasit is popular with DS and friends, and is also co-operative.

Another vote for Forbidden Island, although be aware that it is possible to lose both of these.

We also enjoy Rummikub, but 6yo DS is quick on numbers and patterns, with a good attention span, so depends on your DC really.

We have Castle Panic in the cupboard for when we/DS feel braver. He gets very anxious, so not sure he's ready for the being surrounded by monsters scenario.

I also have Settlers of Catan Junior in my wishlist for when we don't mind fighting scenarios so much.

Rat a tat cat and sleeping queens are excellent card games.
Dancing eggs by haba is a good laugh for a few of you, as is Grab a pig.

New Operation is terrible. I remember it being very tricky to remove some of the bones when I had the game on the 80s. Now a 3 year old could take out most of the items. My advice: don't waste your money.
