I have joined Mumsnet because I am in a bit of a dilemma as to what to buy for my six month old daughter.

Me and the mother have never been an item but we are on very friendly terms and are sharing custody and spending Christmas together. I am just stuck as to what to buy.

Anyone with similar age girls, what are you getting for them?

Welcome to MN, and conbratukations on maintaining friendly relations with your ex. :)

My dc - and even my dgc - are well past that age, but what I'd do is just go to a toy shop/department store and have a look at what's available for babies these days. All toys for children should have a CE mark showing they've been safety tested, and they'll be marked with an appropriate age guide, so check those before buying.

Have fun!

Sounds like you have a lovely relationship with the mother of your child. Brilliant!

Six months means the start of weaning so maybe a couple of the bibs with sleeves (ikea do them cheaply) would be a nice gift that mum would like too if you see what I mean.

For your little one Lamaze toys always go down well. If you'd like something a bit more sentimental as its her first Christmas then you can get personalised wooden building blocks or stacking rings from not on the high street.

Bubbles never fail to captivate and make a fun and very cheap gift you can enjoy together. Stacking cups start to get exciting now - put them inside each other and she might like watching them 'disappear' and reappear.

Baby clothes are always appreciated too.

Our son was 4m last christmas. We bought keepsake items for him off us as we knew he would be getting toys, clothes etc from others. So we got him a certificate(?) with the meaning of his name on. We got him some letters for his wall that spell his name out. We also got him a bookset of the adventure series by Enid Blighton which his Dad read as a boy.
