They're tight on money as they've just moved into a new flat together - ideas needed, pls!

Will ask if there's anything they need for the flat.

How much would you spend on the gf or joint pressies compared to pressies for dss?

And pressie suggestions wanted, pls - he is 22.

We're not tight on money, Rainbow - they are! We don't need to buy them cheap gifts...

May sound odd/boring but My mum got my partner and I a new lovely Egyptian cotton duvet our first Xmas in our first flat. it's so lovely it's tempting to sleep with no cover on as so soft! The best duvet! She also got me a plant from next website which i looked at eveeytime we went to next and had fallen in love with but was pricey so always walked away... After getting me it she bought herself one In January after commenting on it every time she visited :) duvet and plant still appreciated 3 yrs on!

If money is tight for them, how about some restaurant vouchers so that they can still go out for a nice meal.

CocktailQueen · 08/11/2015 23:37

Can you buy restaurant vouchers? Hmm.

She has a baby so going out is tricky... maybe a hamper for staying in?

I quite often do a hamper for dsd and her dp who are a similar age and sound in a similar position. I fill it with things they love but wouldn't normally buy for themselves due to their budget. Things like posh hot chocolate and mugs, m and s treat foods etc.

LineyReborn · 08/11/2015 23:40

I don't think Rainbow was suggesting cheap gifts.

recklessgran · 08/11/2015 23:43

How about a hamper-I am making one for one of my dds in a similar position. They are mad about Italian food so I am putting in a variety of artisan pastas and sauces from a website that specialises in such things along with a nice Italian cookery book and a bottle of Prosecco.I will also be getting them a cineworld gift box [if I can get the order to work on their website!] and vouchers for a Michelin starred restaurant near them. They are real foodies so I know they will love these things. They will also have a stocking each full of useful but lovely bits and pieces that they probably wouldn't buy for themselves.

torthecatlady · 08/11/2015 23:43

Can you get dominos or pizza hut vouchers? That way they could still stay in. Errrm you can pick up some decent digital radios for not too much. I'm trying to think of stuff we found useful when we moved in together :) a hamper sounds nice - a box of chocs, candles, washing up gloves (lol) x

CocktailQueen · 08/11/2015 23:48

Liney - she said: or just a small token gift each (something small and cheap) - that's what made me think she'd got the wrong end of the stick/I hadn't made it clear.

OOh, Pizza Hut vouchers a good idea. Will see if they do them!

Thanks, NameChanger - sounds good! Could maybe do a staying in hamper with dvds, a throw, a bottle of wine??

A throw would be lovely! Lovely for keeping the heating bills down :)

CocktailQueen · 08/11/2015 23:57

I would get them presents of the same value tbh. I'd be too scared of an MN thread being started about me, otherwise!

CocktailQueen · 09/11/2015 20:02

Thanks, Rainbow :)

Lol - Imperial - but we have only met the gf a couple of times!

A hamper is a nice idea but maybe a mix of essential items as well as something a bit more special, if you can stock them up with tea/coffee a few cleaning bits etc then they won't have to buy them for a while and be able to save a bit of money on their shopping for a few weeks

Redberrypie · 10/11/2015 12:49

When we were of a similar age and just set up home together, we got two great gifts that I'll always remember. One was a £50 Pizza Express voucher, we hadn't had a night out in months, so it was a great treat. The other was a hamper with brand names of tea, coffee, chocolate, cooking sauces, jam, fairy liquid, Bold, Andrex Grin. Nothing particularly fancy, but was a real treat from Tesco Value that we had been living on.
