Non traditional Christmas lunch?

Just wondering if anyone else does a non-traditional Christmas lunch so I can steal any ideas!

We've decided not to bother with the full on dinner this year after it was way too much stress last year, especially as none of us particularly enjoy a roast that much (vegetarians and fussy toddlers all in the mix of guests too)! I also have a baby in addition to a toddler this year so I want to do something still special but not something where I'll be stuck in the kitchen all day.

Any ideas?

Oh, and we have friends who always go for a curry - they say it's a great atmosphere.

We are doing beef Wellington this year as the dcs are fed up with turkey. Have not done them before but am going to do individual ones rather than one large one. Serving with potatoes dauphinoise and mixture of veg.

Chateaubriand here. Or may be just a decent steak. Chips and green beans.

Cheese board and chocolate.

For anyone doing beef wellington I'd highly recommend the red wine sauce from this Hairy Bikers recipe.

Also goes brilliantly with lamb and you can make it the day before, stick it in the fridge and just heat it through with the knob of butter before serving.

Thanks for the red wine sauce suggestion WB.

Last year we had a huge baked salmon, vol au vonts for starters (SO 70s Grin ) and tiramisu for pudding.

Tempted to do the same thing again this year as it went down a storm. Might start with strawberry soup.

I would like pizza, but will probably have to keep it for christmas eve for tradition :)

One year we did fish and salad which was lovely, last year was a BBQ (sausages etc) with potatoes and salad on the side. Probably does help I live in NZ though and quite frankly the thought of eating a roast dinner on Christmas day in 25C sends me to tears Grin

At my brother's this year so am not sure what we're doing...

We had egg & chips last year. But that was just dh and me. I had to cook the whole traditional thing on Boxing Day when his mum came round.

I asked the kids what they would like for Xmas dinner. DD3 said potato, cheese and baked beans and DS7 said spaghetti and either bolognaise or meatballs. They also both like the idea of sausages. Sorted then...
