really I have searched and only found 2 year old girls
not for me - I don't have boys and just wondered if something like a tea set from ELC isnt' too 'girly' or a bix box of the plastic foods

do your boys play with things like that?
are 2 year old boys into dressing up yet?
thanks v much for your help

i'm a childminder and at 2 bob the builder, thomas are big

also they like dinosaurs, dressing up (only hats),
anything with buttons,
gadget frecks at 2

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 07/12/2006 18:28

Hmm, my boys loed anything that would make noises... so push buttons etc very good. They also loved cars. In fact, with all 3 the big obsession at 2 was definitely ars in all chapes nd forms.

Tea set is fine if they don't have older siblings to comment- ds3 would love one I think but he would get so much hassle from ds1. He'd love the play food though, and loves playing in the play kittena t my Mum's house.

BahHunkBug · 07/12/2006 18:28

DS1 is three in April - his favourite things are anything with buttons or knobs, Thomas the Tank Engine and Noddy. My sister has got him the till from ELC for Christmas - couldn't get him away from it the other day in the shop! He also likes Bob the Hat (or Builder to us...). And fire engines.

marymillington · 07/12/2006 18:28

mine loves play food/kitchens, dressing up (but i know his little mate really hates it), trains, dinosaurs, plastic animals, and any kind of construction toy.

HappyMellowmas · 07/12/2006 18:28

Mines loves drills and screws and pushing things (anything) and bob & fireman sam (loves fire engines) police cars, tractors, bin lorries. Trains especially Thomas.

marymillington · 07/12/2006 18:29

oh and diggers

absolutely passionate about diggers

HappyMellowmas · 07/12/2006 18:33

Ah yes diggers. I forgot diggers too and buses (thats a new one)

gegs73 · 07/12/2006 18:34

Mine likes cars, trains, any vehicle really, jigsaws. Sticklebricks too, he hasn't got any but loves them when he goes to play at one of his friends houses.

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 07/12/2006 18:36

My boys are 2 and 4 and they are OBSESSED with their kitchen/play food/utensils/tea sets etc. Those toys get more use than the rest of our possessions put together. I'm buying them a real mini-fridge for Christmas

chicaguapa · 07/12/2006 18:40

My DS loves dressing up and he's 2. He likes DD's Belle dress best! But I think this is only for the attention he gets when he's wearing it! He is getting a Spiderman costume for Christmas which I am confident he will like, at least in the coming year before his 3rd birthday.

hana · 07/12/2006 18:44

thank you SO much!
will get food and dinner set (thought was tea set)

save things with wheels for 2nd bday in feb

Hi Hana, my little boy is 2.5 and loves tool sets, tractors, bin wagons, diggers and little Hotwheel cars that you can get quite cheeply from places like Woolworths. He loves putting things into his big truck and pushing them around the living room, making beep beep sounds! Oh, he wanted a keyboard from Woolies too the other day. .

flack · 07/12/2006 19:13

Tomy Aquadraw.

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 07/12/2006 19:14

All 2yr olds love a handbag whatever their gender. How about a fluffy rucksack or coolbag?
My DS is nearly 2 and loves helping me cook and playing with the toy kitchen.

Boleyn · 07/12/2006 20:06

I have 2 sons and I've found that the most popular toy I have ever had in my house for toddlers of either sex is a toy dyson. The next is the kitchen/food. I did have a workbench but swapped it. Tea and picnic sets go down very well. I've not found a gender bias with these things. However my boys don't like dolls or soft toys and none of their girl friends like cars or trains.

Hana - some boys like tea set type thingys and playfood (like greeny's two boys) but that doesn't seem to be the prevailing mood of the thread.....I can only speak for my 2 year old ds but that sort of thing doesn't seem to cut it for him (much to dd's disappointment)

Most posters have said things like dinosaurs (woollies do a simple battery operated one for instance), cars and trucks (Toys R Us) do a good range etc...

I'm getting ds (2.9): a Thomas Aquadraw, a squidy dinosaur (small toy for his stocking), a spiderman costume, spiderman slippers (I haven't a chuffin' clue why he is into spiderman he hasn't seem the film but still seems fairly clued up and interested), a pirate dressing up outfit, and some Kid Knex

handlemecarefully · 07/12/2006 23:48

Oh and I echo what people are saying about jigsaws. Can't go wrong with these!

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 08/12/2006 00:01

Well, you can go wrong with jigsaws - not all children enjoy jigsaws - but then, every child is different . I'm sure you're best placed to decide which of the wonderful ideas on this thread would best suit your particular child, hana.

BahHunkBug · 08/12/2006 00:01

DS1 hates jigsaws

handlemecarefully · 08/12/2006 00:09

Ummm very measured Greensleeves. Was that re-written a few times?

I felt that Hana had made her mind up to a certain degree (sorry to talk about you in the third person Hana) and was looking for posts to confirm her preference. Which of course is just fine...(don't we all do that at times?) ...but just thought that she might want to review some of the recurrent themes that were coming up ...since on reading the thread toy trucks / cars / gadgets seemed to be mentioned more consistently. Although will freely admit I haven't done a meta analysis

handlemecarefully · 08/12/2006 00:12

no offence hana!

On re-reading that it sounds like the most patronising crap, lol

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 08/12/2006 00:13

Come again?

I think you might be better off tucked up in bed, my dear - you're beginning to sound a little bit shrill

handlemecarefully · 08/12/2006 00:15

Whatever...[sighs in exasperated fashion]

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 08/12/2006 00:16

My 13yo cousin says "Whatever" just like that when she's overtired too
