Does anyone open stocking presents on BOXING DAY?

I think it might make Boxing Day a bit less of an anticlimax, and give us something to look forward to on Boxing Day... One last bit of Christmas fun!

Can't make up my mind about whether it's a stupid idea though.

But santa delivers them on xmas eve so you'd have to sit and look at them but not open them for a whole day??

We hold back some family presents until Boxing day and it does spread it out a bit and reduce the impact of the DCs having a load of presents all on one day - not sure if I'd agree with holding back stocking until then - isn't opening the stocking one of the key parts of Christmas morning?

Asteria36 · 07/11/2015 22:23

Only when we don't have the dsc on Christmas Day. Dysfunctional families are shit but getting two Christmases does go some way to making up for it Grin
I think that opening pressies on Boxing Day is a good idea even if you don't have a dysfunctional family like ours!

Have you got children OP? If so then Noooooo ... Christmas morning is all about the stockings.

We've started giving the children a present from us on Christmas Eve - usually a game - maybe you could do similar on Boxing Day?

Savagebeauty · 07/11/2015 22:26

We do them before lunch on Xmas day.
As a child we would have tree presents on Boxing Day...a little gift hung on the tree

I'd never get breakfast made on Christmas morning or start the lunch cooking if the dc weren't occupied with the stockings. We try to get outside on Boxing day but if the weather is too bad then it tends to be board games and jigsaws

LittleAlligator · 07/11/2015 23:39

Sounds like it might be a daft idea then!!

Thanks all.

Maybe Boxing Day tree presents, or a board game may be a better idea Flowers

Yes daft idea :) Have a Boxing Day box of activities to pick from and an do a lucky dip for who gets to pick a game to play.

We spread presents from Xmas Day to New Years Day, possibly later.

Taytocrisps · 08/11/2015 00:52

No but we meet up with one side of the family that day (it's St. Stephen's Day here) and exchange presents. So it's a bit like Christmas Day all over again - a lovely big dinner and more presents [santa].

Santa brings a fair bit anyway so it's less overwhelming for the kids this way.

We have a surprise family present that magically appears after lunch (due to a strategic toilet break for myself). It's always a game or activity to do together. Could something like that work for your boxing day?

chanie44 · 08/11/2015 17:30

I read on here about 'tree presents'. I keep a small gift back for the children for Boxing Day.

I do stockings for Christmas Day, but my mum still does stockings for us and we open those on Boxing Day.
DS gets a big pile of presents and I like to spread out the opening so some may not be opened until Boxing Day.
