I know its been done before but lets start a new thread to help us all!!

I'll start:-

hover ball by JML, seen this advertised on tv, about £11, looks ace for a boy who loves kicking something!

OP posts:
MrsMolesworth · 06/11/2015 10:33

00100001 - I am talking about CDs and DVDs that cost £5. I keep an eye out for them. Graphic novels might be more but we are such book junkies in this house that we instantly forget what they cost - it's our only extravagance. The rest is mainly pound store stuff and the tee-shirts may be £15 but I justify that as 'they have to wear something'.

flatmouse · 06/11/2015 10:44

They have some Marvel washbags (empty) in Debenhams - silly pricey £15, but in the xmas gifts area so likely to be reduced nearer xmas.
Not sure what DS would say if he found condoms in his stocking!

Chimchar · 06/11/2015 22:32

What a bloody brilliant thread! Thank you! Flowers
Have bought quite a few bits linked above.
I get lots of the above plus things like pens for school, pack of cards (posh ones...ellusionist I think)

Can't remember other stuff now. Will have a think!

MrsMolesworth · 07/11/2015 08:24

Buying stuff online works out much cheaper. I got great Adidas wash bags stuffed with soap, deo and a genuinely nice aftershave (smells like Hollister Socal) for £5.99 each on Amazon or Ebay last year.

FranKubelik · 07/11/2015 08:44

Great thread.

I'll add the Jelly Bean Boozled Game Spinner game (suggested on another thread). It's around £6 on Amazon.
Also - Lynx gift sets are half price in Tesco at the moment.

yaffle · 07/11/2015 09:33

Control Freaks (think they're branded Cntrl Freek or some such mis-spelling/text speak ) they're basically things you put on the thumb thingies on x-box/ps controllers apparently it gives more precision .

Phone case

Jelly beans

Small gumball machine

Headphones

Top-gear book

cheapie dvd / game

Calander

Boxers

Bath bomb/ smellies

Gift card for Milkshake parlour /coffee shop/

Small speaker. (o2 priority had a Star Wars pop up speaker )

Wilkos have a lot of character (Marvel /Star Wars stuff in for £5 and under at the moment .

Chocolate orange / sweets /selection packs .

Silly Hawkins novelties ( apparently it wouldn't be Christmas without stretchy me and a slinky ), it's also a tradition that everyone gets a wind up toy .

yaffle · 07/11/2015 09:35

One thing that went down well last year were selfie prop kits , I got face mat type things from one of those Gadget Shop type places .

MrsMolesworth · 07/11/2015 11:18

I love those silly Hawkins Bazaar puzzles and games but DC never once even open the packets. They end up in the charity shops in June, so I stopped buying them.

WotNoLoobrush · 07/11/2015 11:56

A retractable audio cable makes a good (very) small present for a youngster. They sell for under a fiver on Amazon. I have one and it's fab.

You'd need to order very soon though because they take a while to arrive IME.

I really liked the coloured charger idea someone mentioned above.

madmotherof2 · 07/11/2015 12:02

Ooh love the milkshake parlour voucher idea! One of DS's favourite treats!

ssd · 07/11/2015 12:03

one thing I might buy for the stockings is some scratch cards, but would it turn them into mad gamblers? Confused

OP posts:
ssd · 07/11/2015 12:05

mad mother, I'm sure I saw the milkshake vouchers on tesco clubcard, if you have any to spend.

OP posts:
EWLT · 07/11/2015 12:10

I put in a lot of slightly luxury stuff that I guess many people buy all along but have been protected as treats here.

-The dreaded Lynx
-Hair gel
-fizzy drink
-junky snacks/crisps/chocolate bars
-cooking ingredients (DS1 is a keen cook)

Plus things they need

-pants and socks
-stationery things for school
-small things they might need for sports clubs or cadets

And always a book

It's not very exciting, is it? But they seem to like it and I can't be doing with buying "stuff" just for the sake of it

ssd · 07/11/2015 12:24

I must be a bit of a mug, my 2 seem to get the things above ^^ EWLT post, on a regular basis, if they found them in their stocking they'd be like Shock

no wonder I'm skint Blush

OP posts:
WotNoLoobrush · 07/11/2015 12:37

ssd, I wouldn't get scratchcards for my lot but I like that idea in theory.

That's what my Dad and I do for our birthdays.

EWLT · 07/11/2015 12:43

I know ssd. The way that "luxuries" have become "necessities" is something that worries me a lot. I'm in the fortunate position of not having to think too hard about everyday expenditure, but it worries me that my DC might end up with extravagant spending habits without the means to support them.

I want them to understand that £8 for hair gel, a couple of quid for deodorant and a fiver on junk food every time you leave the house is actually quite a lot of money for most people and that you can only spend it once.

Also, that for a good % of the population, whilst new football boots might be needed because they're getting small, that doesn't mean you can have them straight away.

No idea if I'm getting it right though.

MrsMolesworth · 07/11/2015 12:55

We tend to do nicer versions of ordinary stuff. So during the year they have Lynx spray but at Christmas, Hollister. During the year they get ordinary cocoa but in their stocking they get those melting chocolate beans.

Nearlycaughtawoozle · 07/11/2015 13:18

Just ordered jelly bean boozled game suggested up thread. Does anyone know of a similarly silly game for other DC?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/11/2015 14:35

What are melting chocolate beans, please?

I haven't got teenage boys but there's lots of overlap here, especially for d2 who is completely non-girly.

We do things like:

Starbucks voucher
Coke/Cider/Mini Baileys or JD (both over 18!)
Hairspray/gel
Deodorant
Knickers and socks (usually silly, fun printed ones)
Art stuff / colouring books
Marmite / Nutella / Hot choc and marshmallows / green tea or 'posh' teabags for d1
Reese's Pieces / Peanut Butter Cups etc

This year I've bought them both one of those mason jar cup things and will fill them with sweets.

WiryElevator · 07/11/2015 14:41

Fabulous thread - great ideas.

OP- that hover ball looks fab, have ordered one for DS and one for a birthday friend of family. Flowers

I will stick it under tree tho as won't be enough space in stocking. Ditto the annuals and books. And a funny looking cat selfies pack I found at Lakeland.

I've got him so far

Fish eye lens for his phone
LED light up charger wire
Cheap digital watch from AliExpress
Fountain pen (bought in sales)
Funky sticky notes

I will add

Some chocolate
Some funky pens and biros
Some Nike sweatbands
Bath bomb

I think it's a bit odd not buying football boots when your child had outgrown them if you can afford them, and your child plays football. Hmm

ssd · 07/11/2015 19:04

glad you liked the hover ball, where did you order it from, I can't find it!

OP posts:
ssd · 07/11/2015 19:09

the football boot thing, ds has had a few pairs of expensive boots but he sells them on ebay to get another pair, he's great that way....or he manages to find a remote bargain on an old pair somewhere.

OP posts:
AuditAngel · 07/11/2015 20:13

Mine always get a new toothbrush and toothpaste, but one they like such as orange flavour or Hello Kitty (so I don't feel guilty about the sweets).

DH always get about 4 or 5 sets of nail clippers as otherwise he steals mine.

tilliebob · 07/11/2015 20:20

Eldest is 16 and hits over the past few years have been

Tweezers he keeps nicking mine
Totes toasty type socks prefers to slippers
Chocolate orange/malteasers
Box of Thorntons Choc covered toffee
A wee green GI Joe soldier with a sucker so he can prop his phone up and watch things on it (TKMaxx)
New headphones he's always breaking them
Beanie type hats
Socks/boxers
Mug - usually Star Wars
Odeon gift vouchers

And he has to get chocolate coins like the younger kids or "it wouldn't be Christmas" - bless Shock[santa]

WiryElevator · 08/11/2015 08:44

ssd - Amazon have them. I just put in JML hover ball
