Seriously. I normally enjoy doing this. But this year I just can't seem to be arsed. Someone motivate me please.

You just don't want to, do you? Listen to that inner voice. Save the planet. Go with the flow. Bugger the people you've not seen since 1066.

(And if they send you a card and you find yourself seized with the urge to see them you can always send them a card in the New Year.)

JoshandJamie · 06/12/2006 22:18

have now written quite a few aided by wine and chocolate digestives but am not happy with message content. Very superfluous. I hate getting cards that say: happy Christmas - love xx. Like why build my hopes up with a handwritten interesting letter to get that?? Make it worthwhile. But now I am guilty of the same crime. Not quite but almost.

news is now on and i have had 2 glasses of red wine and about to sneek out to boot of car to g et some pressies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have decided to park car across road instead of up on curb as got two flat tyres £245.00 guy said your hitting the curb he's right now i have to walk even further to get shopping from car. It makes writing cards seem easier. ding dong
oh well atleast you've got your cards done.

JoshandJamie · 06/12/2006 23:05

Well have now done 99% but bloody husband is driving me nuts. I say to him: so do you want to send to so and so. I don't care he says. But they're your friends - do you or don't you. And he just can't be arsed so says no, even though there are some I really feel should get cards. So i say, can you write them. And he says: well not now. Which means never.

So thanks to my husbands slothdom we will be cutting our christmas card list dramatically. don't care. have a cramp in my hand from writing. Am going to bed.

J&J, you so sound as if you are ready to join us in NOT sending them. lol at the 'we haven't seen each other, not likely too etc' absolutely agree!

JoshandJamie · 07/12/2006 21:11

I wrote all 30 but apparently need more cards. Today I received cards from some people I'd vetoed. sigh. But there greeting was: merry christmas, x&y - so no pressure to write a nice long personal message

bought mine but just cant be bothered to write them.may give that job to dh when he finishes work next week

aliceband · 07/12/2006 22:50

i felt like that last year, but,in the end when it was nearly time, already into first class! send them all, so know absolutely the feeling.

aliceband · 07/12/2006 22:52

plus my dh used to get a letter from an ex gf not addressed to anyone in particular with loads of detail about what she'd been doing.. pah.. anyway.. we moved and have not told her our new address

themoon66 · 07/12/2006 23:13

Coz we moved house this summer and I still haven't got round to sending out the 'we have moved' notelet thingies, I fully intended to do my cards early and put our new address in each one. But, here we are, middle of December and I still haven't been arsed to do them.

Reading this thread has given me hope that the card giving tradition may be on the way out. I can only pray.

aliceband · 07/12/2006 23:41

hmm. it aint the middle of december surely?

themoon66 · 07/12/2006 23:52

Well, it's the 7th and last posting date for cards is something like 20th, which only gives us 13 days left (approx half a month).

fussymummy · 08/12/2006 01:02

And there was me, thinking that i'm the only one who cannot be bothered to write cards!!!!

Have done kids cards for school tonight, and ended up with a huge headache!!!!

Eldest 2 ended up fighting and winding each other up!!!!!

One is 5 and the other is 8.

5 year old didn't think it fair that 8 year old was writing quicker than her!!!

I wrote all her envelopes and she did all the insides herself.

She must've written about 40 cards!!!!!

He didn't get his finished and then we had her telling him that she was better than him!!!!!

Aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

They've been driving me nuts!!!!!!

Thank goodness the youngest one was sleeping, or else she'd have joined in as well.

santasweetdreamer · 08/12/2006 07:36

so agree with the op!

BaileysMilkshake · 08/12/2006 08:18

Dont want to write mine until I know what my baby is called (due tomorrow - yeah like it will arrive on time )

But spoke to DH and he just said write from us two 'and family' - keeping DD's name off as well - that feels a bit mean so might give the whole thing a miss unless baby makes an appearance within the next 7 days!

themoon66 · 08/12/2006 10:52

Just had a long conversation here at work about this subject. Most of us agree that the xmas card sending is merely a habit. If enough people don't send them, perhaps we can let this habit die a death.

maycontainstress · 08/12/2006 10:55

God knows how but some of the kids in DTS class have already handed out their own handwritten cards. I tried to get mine to write 1 card each last night and they rolled around the floor with a biro in their hands wailing they were too tired.

Hmmmphhh.

ellceeell · 08/12/2006 11:51

I told dd2 age 4 that it was too late to finish writing her cards last night. So she woke me up at 6 a.m. saying " Can we do the rest of the cards now, mum? Pleeeeaaaasssseee."
