Sorry if this has been done before.

Are all the presents from Santa?
Are they all from family?
Mixture of both? How do you split it?

Ds is only little at the mo but just wondered what others did. I used to be told they were from Santa but that my parents got the bill so I'd understand value etc.

Dd is 3 this Christmas so we were talking about this last week!
Stockings from Father Christmas- but they only get delivered after parents have paid (to stop any issues over why not everyone gets presents!)
Under the tree stuff from parents, gifts bought from family are from those people..

glenthebattleostrich · 02/11/2015 12:53

Santa brings main present and stocking, sometimes one or 2 small things too.

The rest are from whoever sends them, parents, grandparents etc. Had to do this to explain why we give presents to local appeals.

CarlaJones · 02/11/2015 12:54

When eldest was tiny i made the mistake of saying everything from us was from santa and she asked i had bought her anything. Grin From then on santa just buys cheapo surprise Stocking fillers and we get the rest. That way they know that if they want something they need to ask us for it or they won't get it (because we won't know.)

Theonethatgotaway772 · 02/11/2015 13:00

When mine believed in Santa, the presents came from him but we sent the money, other presents of family.

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 02/11/2015 13:00

Santa brings a stocking with lots of little presents. The presents under the tree are from mum and dad, family and friends.

BBQueen · 02/11/2015 13:01

The stocking is from Santa, everything else is from parents, friends or family.

That way, appropriate thank yous can be made.

Also, I read a plea last year (on MN, I think) from a parent who said their children had been heartbroken, thinking that they had been "bad" when they realised that Santa hadn't brought them many gifts (the family hadn't been able to afford much).

It would be much easier to explain that mum and dad couldn't afford much than to try to explain that Santa brings everything on some children's lists, and only a stocking for others.

Following! Finding this harder than I imagined

trapdooragain · 02/11/2015 13:04

small stocking from santa rest from me and the family etc my ds is not concerned as long as he gets presents

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 02/11/2015 13:04

We put presents under the tree from us and family. Stocking from Santa. SIL takes tags off, and everything from Santa. It annoys me, because we are told what to buy exactly, and get no Thank Yous .., she wonders why they are ungrateful.
I put her presents in tje sack now, and the kids ask why aunty doesnt get them gifts. ...Hmm

ChristmasZombie · 02/11/2015 13:05

My parents always told us that they bought the presents and wrapped them, then sent them off to Father Christmas to be delivered.

BaronessEllaSaturday · 02/11/2015 13:10

Stockings from Santa anything else from the person who bought it. I explain away some children getting lots from Santa by saying those parents choose to let Santa deliver them all but I like giving them myself.

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 02/11/2015 13:11

I was having this discussion with DH the other day. We were both told everything was from Santa and neither of us ever asked what our parents had bought us or any other difficult questions. He feels fairly strongly about doing christmas the same way and neither of us are bothered about having recognition about buying the gifts. IT doesn't matter for this year anyway but will be following this thread.

Bimblywibble · 02/11/2015 13:16

Father Christmas brings stocking and a couple of physically bigger gifts - a puzzle or game and a book people box set or nice big hardback book. 2-3 gifts from us and those from other family under the tree.

Re santa bringing different amounts, we say families have all sorts of different traditions and santa does what is traditional for each family. This also applies to if he comes down the chimney, leaves gifts in bedrooms or by hearth etc. And if questioned further, point out the thoughtfulness of the presents santa gave, say how lucky they are to get gifts from extended family when others don't etc etc.

I think it's really important that children give as well as receive on christmas day so they make little things for close family too. They take enormous pride in handing out their gifts.

AuntieStella · 02/11/2015 13:16

Stockings from Father Christmas.

Everything under the tree from the person who gave it.

MrsDeathOfRats · 02/11/2015 13:17

Presents are from whoever gave them.

Stocking is from Santa.

MistressMerryWeather · 02/11/2015 13:20

All the presents that DH and I buy are from Santa.

Gifts from grandparents/uncles/family friends are from them.

BathshebaDarkstone · 02/11/2015 13:26

1 toy and 1 thing to wear from us, 1 big toy and some chocolate from Father Christmas. Although when DS2 was 2 it was a book and some chocolate from FC as he was convinced that "Father Christmas give a book!" Grin

Kcat78 · 02/11/2015 13:27

Stocking from Father Christmas and the rest are from whoever has bought them - have always made sure thank you letters are written after Christmas. My DD does question why she doesn't get much from FC when her best friend gets a massive pile and feels sorry for her that her parents don't buy her anything!

HoggleHoggle · 02/11/2015 13:30

Exactly the same as mistress

AutumnLeavesArePretty · 02/11/2015 13:47

Presents from others ago under the tree as they need to know who they are off so they can say thank you

Rest are from us and Santa just delivers. We don't do stockings as seem wasteful.

Cel982 · 02/11/2015 13:54

As kids we always had: stockings from Santa, large unwrapped presents from Santa, wrapped presents from parents and everyone else.

MistressMerryWeather · 02/11/2015 14:06

Ooooh Look! Santa [santa] [santa] [santa]!

How did I miss him? :o
