Some firms banning xmas decorations being put up in the office because they want to be politically correct, and also not to offend anyone.
I am not christian, nor am I muslim, I am in fact Hindu' but we still have a tree and decorations up at our house. And I certainly would not be offended by any going up elsewhere.
Views please... would you be offended or not?

It's madness. Here in the UK, for the majoirty of people it is Christmas. Let us celebrate and enjoy it int he traditional way, wothout all this PC nonsense.

onzephyrstdayofchristmas · 05/12/2006 20:41

Makes me really This is, after all, a Christian country and we aren't allowed to celebrate our own religion because it might offend others. What a joke!!!!

CountTo10LordsaLeaping · 05/12/2006 20:45

It happens every year. People think their doing the right thing but actually they just make things worse and divide us even more. If you asked non christian groups if they minded decs being up I'd be surprised if any of them said yes!!! Bah humbug to them and get your decs up now!!!!

fifi26 · 05/12/2006 21:05

Toys'r'us don't decorate because the major share-holders are not Christians.

Santa123 · 06/12/2006 15:27

Toys 'r' us not decorating because share-holders are not christians!!!!!

They are quite happy at taking our money though!!!!

Xmas decorations are not to do with religion.
Except Manger and Stables.
Tinsel and Baubles are a custom, non?

GlennCloseAsCruellaDeVille · 06/12/2006 15:31

I heard it was because it reduced productivity as people decided to slack off at the sight of Christmas decorations!

vitomum · 06/12/2006 15:33

i think it is patronising and offensive in itself to make assumptions about what people are going to be offended by.

paulaplumpbottom · 06/12/2006 15:41

Political Correctness gone mad.

Tinker · 06/12/2006 15:44

I haven't heard of this anywhere.

PortAndLemonaid · 06/12/2006 15:45

IME it's generally not "for fear of offending people", it's "because it makes the place look untidy" or "because we're afraid someone will fall off a chair while pinnng tinsel to the ceiling". The assumption that it's normally because of a fear of causing offence seems to have been put about by Certain Tabloid Newspapers in a bid to sell more copies and whip up the populace into a hysterical frenzy ... sorry, what am I saying? ... in a public-spirited attempt to beef up community spirit. Oh yes.

Santa123 · 06/12/2006 15:49

2nerves - You are right! Xmas is really about the birth of Christ. All the other Xmas traditions have been brought in over the years.
Xmas trees, decorations, turkey and even dear old Santa have nothing to do with the TRUE meaning of Xmas.

i wouldnt let my staff slack off decorating my little shop. We have a sign saying merry christmas and thats it, i dont see what the fuss is about. if they want to decorate the staff room i wouldnt mind though, as long as it wasnt when i was paying them.
I would rather they gave all their efforts to their customer service then battling it out with tinsel.
