DS wants something Father Christmas can't afford

I keep thinking this ought to have been discussed, so if it has just tell me where?

Cos DS (7) wants something that FC can't afford. If we pool his savings with our contribution plus grandparents, we'll have enough, but he won't get hardly anything else. And really, I'd rather buy DS other stuff, anyway. Including stuff that he'd rather like, too.

What do I do?

what is it that he wants??

nailpolish · 05/12/2006 17:18

you cant get it second hand? ebay?

flack · 05/12/2006 17:22

Secondhand Ebay it costs minimum (not all the bits DS wants) £100. Don't want to say exactly what it is because people i know in RL come on here.

But I think it will be a common theme, with DS. He keeps pointing at miniature diggers and 4x4s that cost £200 in Argos, etc. He has expensive tastes. He's furious that the tooth fairy didn't bring him more, last night.

How old is he? Can you explain to him that if he wants this present then FC will not be able to bring him much else as he can only spend so much on each child?

redbullandbump · 05/12/2006 17:25

was just thinking we could of searced it for you to see if we could find it any cheaper

its a hard lesson to learn, that fc wont bring you everything or exactly what you want

LizP · 05/12/2006 17:59

fc is really mean in our house - only a stocking - big presents always come from mummy and daddy and we often say no - he is getting a lot of requests for a roboraptor from our boys but they know we wont buy one and that it doesn't fit in a ski sock so unlikely to turn up!

ParanoidSurreyHousewife · 05/12/2006 18:06

Ds1 asked for something OTT, and happily accepted the anser "No that's too expensive for Santa, but we might look at getting it for your birthday" (at which point he can be inlcuded int he discussions and the ramifications. In fcat I generally pool with the gps etc for their birthday present given that they get loads of small stuff from their party.

If ds is 7, then is he getting pocket money? Could he save up some of the money towards it after Christmas, then you could help him with the rest - say if he could save 20 or 30 pounds, then do jobs for you and grandparents to earn the rest? we don't do expensive presents for xmas - that way you find out if they really want it!

Likewise Liz... Santa brings the stocking gifts. Mummy and Daddy get everything else. I refuse to let an anthropomorphic personification take all the glory

And besides, Elves refuse to make Bratz in the toy factory.
