We have brought DD this one for xmas and headphones (as I do not like the ones that go into your ears).
DH now has to load it with all her stories and songs.

I bought dd one for her 7th b day in pink from Dixons, its been a huge sucess. The earphones haven't been a problem, but her younger brother and sister 3&4 can't deal with them so perhaps it's an age thing. She listens to stories at night and music during the day - she does look after it etc.

I wouldn't buy the fisher price on at all - she'd be laughed at.

iPod Shuffle is hald price, reduced to £24.50 in Argos at the moment. DD (4y7m) had a go - have got one for FIL - and was able to use it easily, once I'd downloaded some songs onto it.

DD hasn't got an MP3 player, but we are thinking about getting her a cheap one for her birthday, for in the car and when travelling, etc. It's only the same as any other music player IMO. You can buy over the ear headphones quite cheaply.

I think the Fisher Price one is very expensive for what it is.

volume-restricted headphones - DD has a cassette player with these from ELC. Nightmare! Even on its highest setting, you couldn't hear the music/stories unless in a very quiet place ony our own. Was rubbish when we tried to use it on an aeroplane.

looks like the fisher price one is not happening then, I must admit that £50 did seem alot and I hadn't thought of her getting teased which is a real possibility and can easily be avoided

Beware the ipod shuffle if you want to listen to cd stories as it will just deal them out randomly which could be a bit annoying.
Ds's mp3 was £15 at Tesco and sound is as good as my ipod!

I am thinking of getting my dd (5) one but will probably also get her a docking station with speakers so no problem with headphones.

Not sure which type yet as i ahve not caught up with the technology but dh is well up on gadgets!

Yes, has a dinky little cheapy one loaded up with his Pop hits CD and some stories for in the car. Links to car stereo via a cassette converter, as does mine, and I prefer it to having loads of tapes and clutter lying around. Have to make damned sure I take them both with me when I leave the car so as not to invite Billy Burglar in!

He doesn't use it with headphones, though.

With the shuffle you can choose to have it play the songs in the order you have downloaded them as well.
