Too early for New Years Resolutions?

CountTo10LordsaLeaping · 04/12/2006 17:02

When it's that build up to christmas I always start to get a bit philosophical about whether or not I will make any resolutions and if I do what is the likelihood of me managing to keep them?

So this year I've thought about the following:

Being a more productive mum - thinking before doing

Giving up smoking (want to get pg next year and would rather not use actual pg as an excuse as all I do is take it up again after)

Making more of a concerted effort to keep in touch with friends - doesn't take that long to write an email

Being more realistic of my expectations of myself and those around me rather than expecting the earth and being disappointed all the time!!

So what have you all thought about if at all?

Spending more time playing board games on a w/e and going out with the kids.

Going to church regularly.

Getting to the bottom of the ironing basket and emptying it fully once a week.

Continuing doing without sugar in tea and coffee.

Keeping up with the FLYlady threads on MN so the house is much tidier and emptier at the end of 07 than the start.

Putting my expenses claim into work regularly and keeping my leave slip up to date.

Spending some time doing family history as a relative gave me some money when I started (money I didn't want to have, but she insisted) and I don't feel I've done enough on that side yet.

Going out regularly with dh. Once a month would be a huge improvement.

Mine are quite similar to Ivors:
Take ds to church
do something at the weekend with the kids instead of shopping or cleaning
stop smoking
recycle more
go out with dh at least once a month
try to lose another stone.

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 04/12/2006 18:20

Mine are far less arduous!
Keep a list of every book I read on my Bookcrossing page (to find out just how slow a reader I am
Attempt to learn knitting again (still have the same 80s Usborne How To Knit book with legwarmers in it - they are back in, wahey!)
I'm not going to bother giving up smoking unless my dh does (we only have 1 or 2 a night in the garden).
Ivor re going out: Tesco clubcard deals are the way fwd (if you're not a Tesco boycotter that is) - we've done whole meals out on them, half price night in a cheap Hilton etc.

Thanks for the tip stockingsofdinosaurs.

Keep forgetting about our tescos vouchers. Must dig those out and see what we can do. Dp and I haven't been away on our own for ages and it would be nice.

See when I give up smoking I know I'll be doing it on my own!!

Like the ironing one!!!

I only have the one at the moment. Sorting out my finances, which are quickly spiralling out of control with Christmas approaching. Always overspend at Christmas but always make the effort to sort it out as soon as possible in January.

CountTo10LordsaLeaping · 05/12/2006 21:12

We tried to do that this year after going over the top last year!! We've not done too badly either. Picked most of Ds's pressies up through the year as we saw them and it means that you don't miss the money and don't have to spend a chunk at one point. Also shopped around the websites for other pressies to keep prices down and still manage to get nice stuff.

sorry but bloody hate them...don't see the point and don't see why they have to be JAn 1-bah humbug maybe but they really p*ss me off-and to be honest,I don't know why!

IvortheEngine · 06/12/2006 21:52

No, IWhooooooshYouamerryXmas, they don't have to be New Year ones. I've recently given up sugar in tea and coffee (again!) It was the right time for me to try again as I was changing work teams and my new work colleagues now make me tea and coffee without sugar whereas the old ones used to put a very generous 1/2 of a spoon most of the time instead of the bare 1/4 which was what I needed.
