What do I buy my 2yo dd when she has everything handed down from her sisters?

DD3 will be almost 2 at Christmas. I have no clue what to buy her other than clothes (which she already has more than enough of thanks to her older sisters)

Toy wise we have;

A wooden kitchen, play food and accessories.
Dolls prams and numerous dolls that cry/have long hair/can be bathed/are soft bodied. Also have clothes for said dolls.
Wooden puzzles
Ride on toys
A micro scooter suitable for a 2yo
Books
Peppa pig playset and figures
Wooden train
Big box of playdoh cutters
Sticklebricks
Wooden bricks
Huge box of Duplo
Basket of plastic animals and various figures
Musical instriments; plastic drum, xylophone, noisy plastic guitar (thanks SIL for that Hmm), tiny piano thing.

And numerous other toys handed down that are suitable for her age such a toy telephone, bath toys (well a plastic teaset which she loves pouring) and a shape sorter etc

She doesnt need anything. I don't really want to spend money on more things she doesn't need.

But OTOH her 5yo and 8yo sister will be a bit Confused if Father Christmas doesn't bring her anything.

And what on earth am i going to put in her stocking. I was thinking knickers because she will be pottery training after Christmas. And a new cutlery set. At least thats practical.

Any other ideas?

We've told ds1(8) and dd(6) that Father Christmas will likely be going in the loft for ds2's presents, as Santa likes to recycle and it also means he can help out some other children who otherwise would not have any toys for Christmas.

We have the local branch of ELC in our loft. I also plan to thin it out as it comes down. We do not need 5 shape sorters... Or telephones... And on and on.

OTOH, I have bought a few books, went through and there were a few classic board books we didn't have, so he can have his brand new copies (peepo, little box set from m&s of the acorn wood stories by Julia Donaldson, ten little fingers ten little toes.).

I stressed much more last year about them comparing how his gifts were smaller, when he was only 2 months old Grin realised they were so excited with their own stuff, they barely clocked his!

She would love a novelty handbag!

A CD of cbeebies theme tunes was a hit too - DD2 would love this as well!

I like the idea of jazzing up the microscooter. Its a hand me down from DD2 so at least a new bell/stickers will make it more 'hers' and will help when she is older and looking back at photos.

DS2 (who is DC3) got a balance bike for his 2nd birthday, they are great. We got it from Decathlon for about £35. DS1 had one from the same age (wooden, it got left out in the rain and trashed) and he could ride a bike without stabilisers before he started reception. DD never had one and was well over 5 before she could ride a bike, so I think they really do help.

In stockings, DS2 will get: toothbrush and toothpaste (Santa brings weird flavours and glitter toothpaste that mummy never buys Grin), PJs, chocolate, sweets, a book, flannel, bubble bath, felt tips, some plastic dinosaurs or similar, maybe some stickers. That's about it I think. Might try and get some Peppa Pig bits since he's obsessed with it.

Thank you for the suggestions. Have drawn up a list and found a balance bike in Decathlon that will be perfect as her main present

Also it's nice to have things with your name on, even this young, especially when you have a lot of handmedowns. So her own special tablemat with her name on (ebay), own special plate etc. I know it doesn't sound that thrilling but mine find that kind of thing more special than toys.

Good call on the balance bike. She might be a little bit small for it for now, but when she is the right size it'll be a revelation!

Bored12345 · 18/10/2015 15:23

My friend is youngest of 3 and says always buy the youngest personalised stuff so the oldest don't steal it away eg stationery with their name on etc

What did you get her last year? We are a year behind you!

On the balance bike, the crucial thing is size and weight. If it's heavy or too big for her to sit on with her feet flat, she won't like it. We got five years out of ours (two kids) and both went straight on to bikes with no stabilisers. It was a Puky, purely because it was the smallest available at the time - I'm sure there are lots of options now.

The almost 2 year old girl I look after, loves; toy cars and a road map, little magnetic trains [first thing she finds at groups/friends houses], puzzles, her toy kitchen, the scuttlebug, pram and baby, bubble machine, painting

For her birthday and Christmas she will be getting - leapfrog magnets, a scooter [got this a few weeks ago] fisherprice piggy bank [she loves putting real money in her china pot] books, threading games, a few toy trains, bath toys, a few clothes, puzzles,

Usbourne sticker books (Amazon) are a lovely stocking filler - princess and fairy ones are very cute.

H&M have some lovely novelty handbags with short straps

M&S do a Cinderella snow globe bubble bath, I'm tipping bubble bath out and refilling it with sanex!

Jojo mamma have a bath time tea set £10

Magic sand or play doh ice cream shop

New sparkly wellies with Peppa socks

Are you me?!

I added a pop up play tent in desperation. Not surely it'd actually get used.

I just bought the Melissa and doug latch board which is brilliant for that age. I'm also considering their shopping trolley.

I've also got a twirly woos 2/3/4 piece puzzle as she loves the programme.

A pot of slime as a stocking filler too.

RE balance bikes. Agree with poster unthread that mentioned size/weight of child. We have the PUKY L1 but the DDs used it from 3. Maybe try the LRM which is from 2+? They are great little bikes and will resell well. Then there is the Islabike Rohan but it is a bit pricier.

DD1 went onto a pedal bike without stabilisers after using the balance bike. Literally could pedal after the first 15 mins of being on it, and just got more and more confident. I was gasterflabbered at how quick she pedalled alone!

Balance bike def good idea, don't get wooden get a lightweight aluminium one

Then you just need bits to fill sticking mainly. Tbh my 5 year old still likes most of what he did at 2 also so most things you get youngest, other two will like also

I suggest Schleich figures also. Even the eldest will like especially the dragon and elves series arm, so they will last years and you could get one different one each for all stockings.

New slippers, books ( 5 year old can read and 2 year old have them read to her), brio train set
