When do you have your Christmas dinner?

Now that I have left home, this will be the first Christmas that I will be having my Christmas dinner in the evening, rather than having it at lunchtime. We are having dinner with my Fiances family, and they always have it around 7pm. Fiance thinks it's far too weird to have it at lunchtime. I think it's weird to have it late. 2pm is a perfectly good time!

When does everyone else have theirs?

Usually about 3ish. If we had it at 7 we would all go to bed with indegestion.

as it's jus the 4 of us, DH, DS and DD I usually aim for around 1pm...but it usually ends up around 3 !!!!!

Delay can be due to late breakfast of scrambled egg and smoked salmon with lovely crusty bread...and bucks fizz for mummy & daddy

There was a thread like this a few weeks ago - it turned into a class war

TinselgalacticWalrus · 04/12/2006 13:09

We aim for 2ish, but wine usually gets in the way, and it ends up being burnt at around 6pm.

spykid · 04/12/2006 13:09

About 3.

buffet tea seems to start as I have just finished bloody clearing up!

Blu · 04/12/2006 13:11

Oh, I missed the class war!

We've always had it in the evening.

Nemoinapeartree · 04/12/2006 13:12

I wanted to have Christmas dinner on Boxing Day evening this year. We always eat our main meal at about 5.30 pm. Every Christmas I dish it up at 1pm/2pm and no-one eats it and I end up throwing it all away. We have family over in the afternoon so can't have it then so I suggested Boxing Day 5.30 pm. At least it will get eaten then.

But DH says NO. It has to be Christmas Day lunch time. Huff.

deaconblue · 04/12/2006 13:47

2-3 is perfect I think. We plan to have it at 12.30!!! this year so that 7 month old ds can join in - good job it's my mum who has to get up at 6am to bung the turkey in the oven!

BexieID · 04/12/2006 13:47

I missed the war too!

What prompted me to start the thread was my Fiances utter disgust about going out for Sunday lunch yesterday with friends! As he only has 3 apples for lunch at work I guess it's a shock to the system to eat a big meal at lunchtime!

Definitely lunch time. Santa stuff before breakfast. Kids play and or go out in garden/walk in morning whilst "ladies" get lunch sorted out. Dads play with kids or doss. Lunch, then dads clear up. Then family presents. Then light tea around 6ish.

But we always have Sunday roast so used to that timetable.

Bubba Tom will be 8 months, so it would make sense to have it earlier for him to join in. But having said that, he sometimes doesn't get his dinner till 8pm!

I'm aiming for 3.30ish. That way we get a relaxed morning with the children before the relatives arrive at about 2. Will have canapes (as made by dd11 and ds10 so not uberposh) from 2 ish - no starter though.

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2006 14:13

around 5pm

mummylin2495 · 04/12/2006 14:17
