90 year old nan

I'm really struggling this year with our 90 year old nan.
She loves knitting but I think she has almost everything related to that.
We live with her as she can't be on her own anymore, and she is housebound due to pain so it needs to be something she can use. We are with her everyday and spend lots of time with her. Previous gifts include cordless large print house phones, a large bundle of towels for her new walk in shower room and new bed sets etc. She has 2 wardrobes full of clothes and for the past 3 years other family members seem to buy either knickers or nighties so she's stocked up well for them. I'm just so stuck.

I usually give my grandpa (92) a hamper I have put together of his favourite treats - nice tea and coffee, biscuits (not too crunchy), a nice pasta sauce, his favourite sweets - just a few treats nicely packaged.

Or my grandma (not quite ninety) like audio books on CD.

Something that will be eaten or used, and doesn't need a home finding for it. Any favourite sweet treats or shower gel/soap? Would she enjoy a homemade Christmas cake?

themumfairy · 14/10/2015 17:03

I did that for her birthday last year, and then for xmas last year with her towels I did a basket filled with all lotions and potions she liked. She's got a collection of baskets now haha filled with all the biscuit tins from others that she might need Grin we've recently had sky multi room installed for her in her bedroom so she can watch her soaps so i dont think she'd put a cd on now. sometimes she's in so much pain she can't get out her bedroom. She has literally everything and because she's such a big part of our lives I want to get her something other than a tin of biscuits I can just pick up on the weekly shop.

Does she like home fragrance? A reed diffuser for her bedroom.

A plant she can see from her bedroom?

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 14/10/2015 17:15

Bet she's not got one of these. (I really want one)
Or maybe a magazine subscription. My dear mum used to love a planter with her favourite bulbs (Thompson and Morgan)

A nice photo book or photo calendar?

Jackmelad · 14/10/2015 18:13

You've given her the greatest gift of all; your time, company and love.

Hero1callylost · 14/10/2015 18:17

Has she got a yarn bowl? Look for Little Wren Pottery on Folksy/Etsy (can't remember which, sorry)

Hero1callylost · 14/10/2015 18:19

Or what about more of an experience than a gift eg afternoon tea somewhere nice

Or a pretty patchwork or bedspread for her bed

Threetoedsloth · 14/10/2015 23:31

Does your nan feel the cold? My mother's 92 and we bought her this last year.

Yes I was going to suggest a lovely soft blanket for her to snuggle in while she's in her bedroom, or some old films on DVD for her to watch?

Rockinghorse123 · 14/10/2015 23:44

What about a digital photo frame with a memory stick with photos of family and friends on. We got DH grandma one and she loves it. She has the photos in a loop and every few week we add photos or update old ones. It fab in her flat because there's not a lot of space to display a lot of frames.

Allalonenow · 14/10/2015 23:49

What about perfume, so she can have a spray of a lovely scent, maybe something she used when a young woman?

Or a photo of the town she was born in, there's a company that do vintage views, (could be Ffrith?)

How about an orchid, they don't need much care, last a while, and brighten up the winter days.

But you are already giving her the very best gift, love and a loving home, what a lovely Grand daughter you are Thanks

scarlets · 15/10/2015 16:00

You sound fab.

Given that she spends a lot of time in her bed watching Sky, I'd focus on her bedroom. You've had some good ideas already. I'd also suggest a Christmassy poinsettia as an add-on gift - the Sainsburys ones last for weeks. Before Christmas, perhaps you could source some 1920s/1930s Christmas decorations on eBay for her room, for childhood nostalgia value.

CocktailQueen · 15/10/2015 16:03

Small Xmas tree for her room? YY to old-fashioned decs. A photo of her old hosue years ago? or would that make her sad?
Audio book
bed socks
lap blanket?
