Home made gifts thread anyone?

I hope I haven't missed another thread about this, but I was hoping to share some ideas for home made gifts!
I've decided to set a limit of only £100 this year on gifts to spend on 2 year old DS who will get £50 as he had plenty for his birthday, my parents, sister and grandma and grandad. Might have to spend on a couple of friends also!

Last year I made a chilli jam to go on crackers with cheese which went down well.
I'm thinking of making short bread biscuits and brownies to give as gifts too.

I also made cards with DS last year which cost us nothing and everyone seemed to like them! I'd normally spend £5+ per card for special ones so it saved me a fortune! I'm going to look on Pinterest or somewhere else for new designs to do this year.
I could possibly do my own Lino print cards to give out!

Has anyone got any reasonably priced ideas for things they like to make to give as gifts? Smile

I can't believe I'm getting excited about Christmas already Grin

Professor , were those the potato print cards you made from Pinterest?I thought they looked adorable and was thinking of doing them this year

TIllITook. You need to make sure that you get the fudge mixture hot enough. Once you have got it hot enough, it will thicken up.

Hi, would someone be so kind as to share their recipe for whipped body butter? I would love to do something like that for dd and her friends..

SilverNightFairy · 12/10/2015 01:38

steal sockattack's idea

Silver I used this recipe a couple of years ago . I used lavender oil and it was lovely , it was the most moisturising body cream I've ever used

Most of the things I've made have been mentioned but another is Christmas granola - basically the granola I usually make but with dried cranberries, orange zest and Christmas spices. Can be given in a jar or a cellophane bag with Christmas ribbons.

A friend of mine often makes me a sugar scrub which she puts in an old jar but the last time she made it she picked up a quirky little dish from a charity shop for pennies and put the scrub in that. There was no lid so she put the whole thing in a cellophane bag closed with a ribbon. It was lovely. I now use the little dish to keep my shampoo bar in. You could use a tea cup too.

Just had a thought, I have a silicone mould with love hearts that I could fill with a layer of milk chocolate and a layer of white milk chocolate.
I could maybe melt some more white chocolate and add red food colouring to drizzle over them to decorate.
Thought it might be a nice quick easy and cheap thing to add to a hamper or gift bag!

I've got rhubarb vodka laid down steeping thanks to a recipe from a MNer, and am sewing some simple ornaments and new stockings too [santa]

luckiestgirlintheworld · 12/10/2015 18:49

I'm thinking about doing flavoured spirits too.

I like the idea of werthers original vodka or maybe skittles vodka or maybe Christmas pudding vodka.
Or perhaps fresh cherries brandy?

Anyone else got other good ideas for flavoured spirits?

SilverNightFairy · 12/10/2015 21:33

ImaSantaClaus, thank you so much! I am going to start working on that recipe next weekend...will try out a batch for myself first..

Those silicon mounds are fantastic Prof - if they're deep enough you can put some chocolate in, let it set, fill with ganache, let it set, then seal with chocolate. Absolutely brilliant.

Or you can coat nuts, fudge, Turkish delight - anything!

dinkystinky · 13/10/2015 11:04

blackberry vodka is lush.

Nc19999992 · 13/10/2015 12:44

I think you guys will be able to help..

We are looking for something decent (I was originally thinking some fancy chocolates) for people who have helped out for our wedding (November) but even at £5 a box this is going to add up quickly..

Any ideas? Not everyone drinks so not the vodka, and I want it to look special.

Going to look through the other linked thread now!

Will you have time to make truffles? Or buy wild flower seeds and tiny envelopes so they can grow their own bouquet of thank you flowers?

KittyCatPumpkin · 13/10/2015 15:36

I'm knitting my dad (and the dog!) a scarf (knitting others too but they'll get them before christmas), have some damson gin in a dark cupboard which will be ready mid december, i may gift some if i don't keep it for myself! Thinking peppermint bark as well. Making cat toys from felt, stuffing and cat nip for all the family kitties too

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 14/10/2015 13:11

At Easter I made chocolate lollipops very cheaply - Tesco Value dark chocolate, melted and mixed with lemon flavouring - they were amazing and didn't taste like cheap chocolate at all. I also made orange ones. 30p per bar and I got 3 good sized lollipop out of it. Making some with smashed up candy canes this afternoon!

Ahardmanisgoodtofind · 14/10/2015 13:20

microwave fudge I NEED a recipe/method for this Grin

steppemum · 14/10/2015 13:33

you lot have inspired me.

I am going to make marmalade, lemon and elderflower. I have elderflower cordial and elderflowers in the freezer, just bought the lemons.

Any suggestions for cheap small glass jars?

I think I will also do the christmas chutney (delia's) and I am dying to try some soap.

Any recommendations for soap? I have never done it, so a little nervous.

I would love to sew/make something but none of my family appreciate home sewing.
Last year I made Merry Christmas fabric banners for my 2 closest friends, they were really good and came out very well.

Would like to make something Christmassy for them this year. Also a little something for their boys (age 8)

steppemum · 14/10/2015 13:34

Oh was thinking of mustard too.

luckiestgirlintheworld · 14/10/2015 15:08

Any of you home brewers...

Where can I buy little glass bottles from cheaply? Needs about 45 (3 bottles of flavoured vodka per person) The small miniatures sized ones (50ml)

StubbleTurnips · 14/10/2015 19:48
