What can I put in a hamper?

I'm wanting to make hampers for 3 couples in my family but need some inspiration as to what to put in them. Ideally I don't want to be spending too much!

They're all foodie types which is handy.

Any ideas?

Home mades or shop bought?

If shop bought, i'd go wine, pate, cheese and fancy biscuits.

If home made, i'd make fudge/truffles, chutney, flavoured vodka or oil...there's loads of ideas on this board.

You could do afternoon tea type hampers.

Maybe do m&s tea bags and posh coffee, 2 small cups, biscuits, some nice chocs.

When you say they are foodie do you mean that they like cooking themselves? Would a theme work?

My PILs love Italian food so we always do an Italian-themed hamper. Nice pasta sauces and pestos from a small local company, good quality olive oil, biscotti, panettone, limoncello sort of thing.

The other thing we have done sometimes for people is to visit our monthly local artisan market and buy hamper contents from small local suppliers. That way we can give people something that they might not have seen before and we feel we are supporting local producers.

Sorry for the late reply. It will be shop bought - I wouldn't know where to start with homemade!

Great ideas thank you. I'm going to visit my local artisan market as 5 suggested and will see what I can find. Also need to find some wicker baskets to put it all in.

Love the afternoon tea and Italian themes!

IKEA are fab for wicker hamper baskets. I got a few last year at £7 each.

I am doing the same thing for two couples and one singleton in my family, I've gone for a mix of food stuffs and random bits and bobs which I think they will like or find useful or fun. So far I've got:
Pate - a small gift set of 4 different flavours, found in Aldi. Will buy some naice crackers to accompany.
Popcorn - Salted Caramel Flavour
Small Box of Naice Chocolates
Small Adult Colouring book
DVD for the singleton
Small flavoured Vodka gift set for the singleton
Mary Berry Family Meal Planner for the couples who also have children (found in Sainsbury's reduced to clear at half price)
Egg Frying Pan (Aldi)
And I'm getting them all a small bath/shower set.
Might get the couples some sort of alcohol gift set type thing.

Not sure if that seems like enough or not? Most of the stuff has been bought relatively cheap, I've set a budget of up to £20 per hamper.

Oh and I'm looking to add some sort of fun novelty gift as well like an impossible jigsaw puzzle or something. Home Sense has some good nicnaks and stuff for hampers and I saw some nice looking wicker hampers on eBay.

I've done DIY Fortnum's hampers in the past, not as expensive as you might think, and shopping in Fortnum's at Christmas time is just lovely. Obviously you need to be able to get to Fortnum's to do this Smile.

I individually wrapped each thing in tissue paper and ribbon and put it in a nice bag.
