I am 33, have 2 kids and been married for almost 7 years yet still go to my mums every year for christmas. Who else has avoided this stress?

I'm 44 and have never hosted a Christmas Dinner. I've cooked it for dh and I on our first Christmas together, and last year did it for dh, dd and I (and beans on toast for step-d). But never for the whole family.

I'm the youngest of 3 sisters and it's always been hosted by one of them, and Boxing Day by my mum or aunt. I've either lived away from everyone else or not had the room, but also I think they've always treated me as the baby of the family who couldn't do anything for herself (and I've let them ). They even used to come to visit at Easter and bring all the food with them. It's a standing joke that I always turn up to the Boxing Day feast with a prawn ring.

This year we're all going out for a meal, so I'm off the hook again, but the tide's turning and I've said I'll share doing the Boxing Day buffet with my big sis, but at mum's where there's room.

I'm 40 have 2 dds(nearly 5 yrs and 10 months)and have been married for 7 years, and must hold my hand up up say I have not yet cooked a christmas dinner or turkey - don't think me or my oven oven could cope with it. At the moment the 'mothers' are still competing about where we go so while they are still happy to host we're happy to be guests. (anyone else get the 'what are you doing for Xmas?' phone call round about mid October?) We usually have various sets of family round for Sunday lunches in the run up to Xmas so get round it that way I guess. Cooked duck one Xmas eve for dh (pre dds) which was a big success. This year we are having Xmas morning at home then going to mil for late lunch and a sleepover - the big dd will love it! - the baby will probably keep us up half the night so we will be knackered but ...... ho, ho, ho!!

COVN - I am 33, 2 kids and been married for 4 years yet still go to my Mums every year this Christmas.

Dh and I suggested we have our own Christmas this year with the children. To our dismay Dm was horrified. We were branded selfish, depriving grandparents of their grandchildren and more. There were rows and tears, so much so dh and I capitulated.

Am glad to find that other people haven't either. I've offered but my Mum and Dad won't travel now and my M-in-L has to have everything her way, so probably a blessing. Would criticise everything and it would get very tense. Expect I shall have to one day - am not a great lover of Christmas food and all the other razzamatazz so am not holding my breath in anticipation !!
