What to get 10yr old indoorsy girl

I'm at a complete loss as to what to buy for my eldest daughter. Her 8 year old sister is getting a much needed new bike and I'm worried I won't be able to find anything of similar value for her.
She already has a hudl tablet, bike, good scooter. She's not very outdoorsy at all as much as we try to encourage her and I'm coming to the conclusion that it can't be forced. She has loads of Lego and I'm loathe to get a large set that will just be built once and then eventually jumbled up with all our other stuff.
She's 11 soon and quite mature although not really into fashion or anything yet.

If anyone has any ideas that would be fab, I'm trying to stay away from extra screens but my only idea so far is a tv dvd combi for her room which she'd love but I'd rather not.

Thank you

Watching this thread as also have 10yr DD who can't think of anything for -she wants a laptop but also prefer not another screen! Already has mini iPad and phone ..

How about a camera or camcorder? The Nikon coolpix seems to be popular with that age group? With a book of photography tips you may even tempt her outside to snap away Grin. My 8yo sounds very similar to your DD. I've bought her a dirt cheap Aldi camera as one of her presents to see if it sparks a new hobby.

A camera is a great idea.

Does she like art?

Or how about some kind of experience rather than a "thing"?

Buttercupsandaisies · 05/10/2015 19:39

Sewing machine with fabric?
Vtech action cam... Can attach to bike, body etc
Karaoke machine
Roller boots

I think an experience would be the best idea but I can't have her sister come down to a bike while she gets an envelope, so I was thinking of saving the experience until her birthday early next year. We have got them Little Mix tickets as a joint present though. Her sister got a coolpix camera for her birthday in June and is quite good at sharing it so I don't think it would have much wow factor, I could perhaps get her a better one though.
Is the Vtech cam like a GoPro? I was thinking of a GoPro in the hope it might encourage her to get out more but I worry it would go mainly unused.
She does like to sew and I have a machine, I worry about her messiness with needles and pins having her own, we have a two year old as well who is into everything. Again this could be a good one but I'm not sure we need two in the house.
Roller boots - I was looking at heeleys as I thought she might like those, I just always come back to it not being any where near as good as a bike, I'm probably over thinking it!
She's to self conscious for a karaoke machine unfortunately.
Thank you all for all the lovely ideas, I will have a browse of Amazon this evening.

Does she like baking? Loads of baking paraphernalia! Does she like Tanya Burr or Zoella (who have books and bath stuff etc)- possibly too young for them yet? Magazine subscription?

Neddyteddy · 05/10/2015 20:35

Audible has lots of audio books

Neddyteddy · 05/10/2015 20:37

Or an experience. Take her to see a special show or some sewing lessons

An art set? A complete set/ series of books?
The best present I ever received was my first acrylic paint set and easel. I still have my easel.

groovejet · 05/10/2015 21:54

My eldest dd has just turned 11, not hugely outdoorsy but does love her rollerboots.

She hasd a 3d doodle pen for her birthday which went down well and a nail art set which she loved www.amazon.co.uk/Nail-Style-Studio-Klutz-Steele-Staccio/dp/0545561639/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1444077552&sr=8-11&keywords=nail+art+kit

She currently has a telescope on her wish list for Christmas, and I am also thinking of getting her an archery set as she liked her nerf bow so thought it could be a step up, something like this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007Y6FYQI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

Anything from Smiggle is very popular, and if she likes art agree a nice art set is a good choice, dd had a set last year and got quite into doing watercolours.

lindsey077 · 05/10/2015 23:39

The 3D pen looks perfect, thank you so much!
I've got a few stocking fillers in the smiggle sale, she's never seen anything from them before so I'm testing the water.
I've got her a cheapish set of acrylics for her stocking from homesense but I might get her some lovely art paper to go with them.
I like the idea of an archery set, the one you linked to is great as there's less chance of injury!
Feeling much more optimistic now, thank you all for your ideas.

Bagatelle is a really fun game that can either be played alone or as a family - and comes in a big box! Table football? Bop it? You can get almost scrapbook type books on Amazon with pages for family tree, likes and dislikes etc. I think I gave my niece one called 'All about me' that went down well. Would she like a new desk, giant bean bag, hammock? Something like swingball?

SideOrderofChips · 06/10/2015 08:39

ipod or similar?

SitsOnFence · 06/10/2015 10:14

The Stealth archery set is amazing. We use ours indoors and outdoors and it can cover some distance. It's simple enough that 5 yo DD and terminally clumsy 6 yo DS can both use it unassisted with pretty accurate results. It's also big enough that an adult could use it without looking silly.

Would she like something like stilts? Could be used indoors if you have enough space.

How does she use her Lego? Does she prefer to free-build or does she enjoy following the instructions? If the former, maybe look at other construction toys (a grown up marble run like this that can be constructed in lots of different ways, a huge box of knex, or perhaps even some basic woodworking hand tools and a load of balsa wood). If the latter, perhaps she would enjoy some sort of model building kit?

What is a 3D pen? Sounds interesting!
