Got a letter today saying that dd1(5) needs to be dressed as either a star or an angel for the xmas play.Luckily i bought a halo thing the other week so will go with the angel idea i think.
Does any lovely mumsnetter have a costume they could lend or does anyone have a really really easy costume idea please please please!!

adult white t-shirt with a ribbon round the waist?

2nervesnapartridgeinapeartree · 01/12/2006 21:17

I made my dd a long white costume which was really easy. The secret was to buy long piece of upholstery type golden rope ifykwim and then any loose flowing sheet type dress can be tranformed by wrapping rope around waist and crossing over chest and under arms etc. Think greecian toga type outfit.
Does this make any sense at all?

Depends how big she is, but I made my 4yo DD a plain white costume out of two muslin squares sewn together at the shoulders and under the arms. I know someone else who used a white pillow case. A bit of shiny ribbon around the waist and you're away.

(This was actually for an Egyptian costume, but you just need to change the accessories. And if you've got a halo already, you're well away).

get a plain white t-shirt, shorten the sleeves a bit and put tinsel round the sleeves and bottom, use tinsel for a belt and buy some wings xxx

pelvicfloorSNOWmore · 02/12/2006 22:26

Hmmmmmmmm

Yes does sound do able with a stapler though
I think i will look in the pound shop for tinsel.
Will have a go anyway
Thanks

yeah an adult t shirt or one for an older child depending on size of dd. also would not advise with stapler- just do a loop stitch round the tinsel, only need to be something basic to keep it on for an hour

pelvicfloorSNOWmore · 02/12/2006 22:32

lol really i cant use my stapler
[bad mother emoticon]
would need to be very simple if im sewing it.

If you do change your mind and decide to buy one then Woolworths do an angel costume for £10. DD1 was an angel last year but I ended up buying her outfit because it was going to be quicker and cheaper once I'd got all the bits and bobs for wings etc. I didn't regret it though as I have 2 DD's, so you never know when DD2 might become/be seriously mis-cast as an angel and besides, DD1 likes to wear it to the supermarket sometimes

Snowstorm · 02/12/2006 22:36

PS. DD1 was Mary this year. She wore one of DH's large navy t'shirts as a dress and I just safety-pined a big pleat on the inside neck-line using a nappy safety-pin to make it fit and to keep it on her little shoulders. No sewing needed and looked/worked fine.
