In the morning we'll be visiting family, but will be on our own from the afternoon onwards.

Any ideas?

Playing with toys I would imagine while watching some Christmassy film.

Well thats us anyway!

We will be in the same boat, but will be on our own all day! We are going to go for a long walk by the river (we live next to one) weather permitting of course! I am hoping it will be snowing and that ds will get tired and sleep in the next day lol!

Put the toddler down for a nap, light the fire, & lay your head in your dps lap and go to sleep... I love a xmas day snooze!!!!

Cappuccino · 01/12/2006 21:14

we bought a christmas sponge painting set about 3 years ago

it comes out every year: we make xmas paintings in the afternoon

one year when we were desperate we all got in the car and drive to the areas which had the best christmas lights and went 'ooh' through the windows

heavenlyghosty · 01/12/2006 21:15

LOL, for DS's second xmas DH and I got really pissed when DS was having his nap so we just stayed at home playing with his toys and watching dvds ....

mumfor1standfinaltime · 01/12/2006 21:15

Wish we had a fire..sounds lovely.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 01/12/2006 21:16

Cappucino, looking at the lights is what christmas is all about. That sounds great to me, not desperate

We took a trip to our local fire station one year. They were very happy to let DS1 have a go with the hose and it was his best ever present.

PanicPants · 01/12/2006 21:22

Really love the idea of a trip to the fire station....now to convince dp

As long as it's quiet - and they'll let you know if it's not, they really won't mind. The fireman (aren't we supposed to call them 'firefighters' now?) even said that it was too quiet. He seemed pleased of the distraction, TBH.

Are you near a zoo? Some of them are open on Christmas Day (our local one is) and a good walk round would help get rid of the after dinner sluggishness.

HazelnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 01/12/2006 21:37

Christmas day here at HN house is much like any other day really. apart from new toys/pressies to open/ play with, good films on the TV (dvds) more than enough to eat. We get dressed up (Christmas clothes)DC have a bath at a bout 6:30 and then its cuddles on the sofa until they are sleepy. I might go for a walk this year if the weater is good. This is going to be the 2nd year on my own at Christmas. HNtree (step mum) might come round this year if I can get her to stay for a few nights. But she does have her friends come to her at Christmas so I came really expect her to come and stay.

I vote for doping up the toddler with calpol (is that a sniffle? it's definitely a sniffle) and having a Christmassy shag (or 2) by the fire . Oh to have just the one small child!

Posey · 02/12/2006 17:59

I'm quite amazed at what you all get up to. Do none of you just chill out amongst the toys, eating and drinking and watching TV?

paulaplumpbottom · 02/12/2006 18:03

The roads will be pretty empty, so why not take a drive to see all the Christmas lights at night.

Tommy · 02/12/2006 18:29

We always try and get out for a walk but are at MIL's this year so I don't know what she'll want to do! gaze adoringly at her grandchildren, probably )
