I can't wait to go and get my real tree tommorrow - it's a bit sad but I think that i'm more excited than the DC's!

munz · 30/11/2006 20:12

DH won't let me have a real tree anymore blooming fake ones here hate fake trees it's not xmas with one of those.

hatwoman · 30/11/2006 20:13

but if you put it up now what's left of it at Christmas? hasn't it gone seriiously droopy

josben · 30/11/2006 20:16

Yes maybe - We've never had a real tree before and so I've been told that I'll be surrounded by scattered pine needles by dec 25th!

hatwoman · 30/11/2006 20:53

yep you definitely will. hopefully it's not near a radiator? and if possible water it

pointydog · 30/11/2006 20:56

There's alot of responsibility goes with having a real tree you know

hatwoman · 30/11/2006 20:58

they like fresh air too

wangle99 · 30/11/2006 20:58

Make sure you water it loads, when you think you've given it enough you probably haven't! The first thing that will make it drop it's needles is if it gets too dry.

Can't decide whether to get our tree this weekend or not....

pointydog · 30/11/2006 20:58

yep. take it for a walk.

mistletoemania · 30/11/2006 20:59

we are all obvioulsy watching strictly confidental my speed typing is not what it used to be so please ignore mistakes. taking tree for a walk! lol at that. THe holder tripod type thing you cannot fill it past were the screw are as it leaks and would be dangerous with lights etc.... any suggestions? nearly bought a living one but it was too heavy to lift as d/h is away.

have to go prog back on

We are getting a real tree this year and were thinking of going to get it on Saturday.

Question, will it last until 25th or not and do ones planted in pots retain their needles better.

pointydog · 30/11/2006 21:37

think you're pushing it for it to still look bouncy come new year's eve

hatwoman · 30/11/2006 21:41

not sure about the ones in pots but definitely worth getting a proper garden centre non-drop one - twice as expensive but if you got a cheap one now you'd seriously have no needles by christmas let alone new year. for the last few years we've had expenise ones, ;last year I though bugger it and got a cheap one and swore blind I'd never do it again. It lasted about a week. seriously. we put it up a couple of days before christmas, took it down before new year. don't do it.

xmasmummy · 30/11/2006 21:44

i would have a real one but would constantly be fishing the needles out of baby mouths so i have a fake one. will spray it with pine fragrance though

pointydog · 30/11/2006 21:44

and buy a new tripod that doesn't leak.

watch the christmas tree bill rise... ooohhhhh!

UCM · 30/11/2006 21:53

Was hoping to spend around 30.00 am I being unrealistic pointy??

hatwoman · 30/11/2006 22:00

I can't remember what the going rate is for non-drop ones but I'd go for something smaller and better quality rather than going for size, iyswim

cornishpasty · 30/11/2006 22:16

I've never had a real tree before and i am considering getting one this year. I've a couple of questions for you people experienced in this. How long do they last and what do you put them in? Can you buy proper stands for them and if so where from - would garden centres have them?

BexieID · 30/11/2006 22:39

The only time my parents had a real tree, my dad was ill. This year it's mine and Fiances first Christmas together but we're getting a fake one!

Aren't tress not supposed to go up till 12 days before? I want to get one next weekend.

pointydog · 30/11/2006 22:48

Don't worry, cornishpasty. Right beside the trees - at any good garden centre - you will find quality stands and all manner of extras that you might need! You can't go wrong. Just have your wallet at the ready.

mistletoemania · 30/11/2006 22:54

ooh!! It's the christmas tree police!!! Your tree is real up too soon!!! Hee hee I thought the 12 days means everything has to be down by 6th jan unlucky to have decorations up after that. Wow betide all those people with outside lights up from last year. It was a new tripod stand and I went for quality rather than quantity obviously not with stand!!! will keep you posted have already hoovered twice!! that was just getting lights on. Then letting kids decorate it had to intervene looks great. have watered it twice already might have to set my alarm clock for next feed!!! Should have taken garden centre trolley home to walk it

pointydog · 30/11/2006 22:56

yes, don't forget the night feeds
