I am trying to think of a gift that is a little different for my friend. In the past I have done the perfume thing, I already have a little necklace for her but I need something more for her that is around £40- £50. She has: loads of dvds, cd's, loads of shoes, pashmina's, handbags, an ipod, bought her gym stuff last year etc. She is currently in to soup making but has a hand blender and food processor, she loves shoes, she has the body cream etc to go with her favourite perfume, she has a lovely jewellery box, I am totally stumped!! Any suggestions welcome!! Tia, Tigglyxxxx

vouchers for when she runs out of her fav thing in her fav shop

marymillington · 30/11/2006 15:38

subscription to vogue
or llamas for africa
or knit her something

marymillington · 30/11/2006 15:39

suede or leather gloves
voucher for a pedicure

Tiggly · 30/11/2006 15:49

She already had:
leather gloves, £10 a month subscription to the RSPCA (her chosen charity), husband buys her nice undies every xmas , might have to go with the massage/facial/pamper voucher but i did that for her birthday last year!!!!! thought I was so cunning in previous years as i'd get her stuff that she had mentioned, wanted for ages, knew she would like... never thought it would bugger up my idea pool!bum!
please keep the ideas coming, love the llama idea after the rtmkanga's thread the other day!!

NotActuallyAMum · 30/11/2006 15:56

Bugger all, she's got plenty already!

Bozza · 30/11/2006 16:03

well there is a first time for everything - and me being called a genius is one of them.

I think they do them in the back of the Next Directory but TBH unless delivery is an issue you are probably better going to a garden centre.

Tiggly · 30/11/2006 16:06

Cod, may I say I am honoured that you have posted on my thread (the first in 12 months of being on here!!) but I am spending this much on her this year not just for christmas but as a huge thank you for all that she has done for me in the past 12 months i.e. proof read my dissertation at all hours, prepped me for job interviews, helped with research, taken time off to come to a funeral with me, dropped everything when things have gone pear shaped here and there, been on the end of the phone, and been a bloody good friend in general. This year want to get her something that means something special to say thanks, what perhaps I should have put is that I can spend up to £50 not just £50. She's an angel. I do the same for her unquestionably. She's been like a sister that I should have had.... but thats a whole new thread!!

SmudgeMum · 30/11/2006 16:16

Kind of not the point of Christmas I would say Cod. Like Tiggly, I am not usually governed by cost of present but of finding something that will mean something to the person i'm giving it to. I love the feeling when you know you've found something that they will like and shows that you've put thought into the present. Saying that, I haven't got any ideas Tiggly - but if anyone wants to help me with what to get a 96 year old Grandad and 89 year old Grandma who always put presents away to 'keep for best', that would be great!

Tiggly · 30/11/2006 16:29

Smudgemum, I bought microwaveable (sp) slippers for my fiance's grandmother last year and she loved them! They have them in the gadget shop and I bought them from John Lewis last year (not sure if they have them this year). Your post was spot on about gift buying though. Will be doing the London thing in February as we were born within a fortnight of eachother and we are going up to see a show etc as a treat!!

Could you go for a half day spa treatment together?

pebblemum · 30/11/2006 16:43

I had this problem with MIl and SIL this year and finally came up with:

Indian Head Massage for MIL £35 (shes always wanted one)

Spa Day for Two voucher for SIL (at marriott hotels)This was on BOGOF at Buyagift.com/sun so i got two of the vouchers for £20 which meant i can keep one for myself Maybe the two of you could do it together (you need to buy own food but you could treat her to that too as part of the present) Voucher lasts 10months so there no rush to do it and you would both have a nice relaxing day together

largeginandtonic · 30/11/2006 16:44

Go to the Never to busy to be Beautiful web site, its full of the most gorgeous perfume, smellies, make up, they do vintage french parfum bottles that are sooooo yummy.

What about this
www.iloveyoumorethanchocolate.co.uk/shop/index.asp?region=uk
I don't have anything and would love something, anything from here!

Tigglystinselnorks · 09/12/2006 00:24

Boleyn, that is a fantastic website for me alone!! yum yum!! I found the perfect thing for my friend, I bought her a handbag from john lewis (slightly blew the budget so shifting some stuff to her birthday so not to go ott!) which combines two of her greatest loves, hers cats and handbags (only her dh and shoes come close!)!! I have bought her a personalised handbag which is large enough to accomodate all her stuff and is personal to her!! It is perfect! And she has a bay leaf tree too because I had already bought that when i found the bag, and it might be dead by the time her birthday comes around, or at least re-planting!!
