Is there a poncetastic thread this year? I am itching to ponce!

Yes, it's a tree decoration. You can also get the Archbishop of Canterbury, St Nicholas and other churchy decorations. I live in York, and I have been yearning for one for the past couple of years but they keep on being sold out by the time I decide to buy one.

They are like this:

Arockandrollnerd mine never lasts long enough because we eat it with everything! But I made my parents a jar that's lasted at least a year...probably more Hmm they're not getting another one!
Teaplease I've only ever made Nigella's, it's really easy and has never failed me. We love the taste too

Sorted through the booze shelf yesterday to check what we have so I don't have to buy anything. But have now read about someone soaking their fruit in amaretto and am thinking this would be better than boring old rum! Though I still think my cherry brandy puddings are the way to go. Maybe I need two mini puddings to test each out, rather than one big pudding!

Whatabout · 29/09/2015 10:14

Nigella chilli jam is the best I've done.

BiddyPop · 29/09/2015 10:18

I keep looking for an Einstein decoration (a la Sheldon!) and failing as they also sell out fast. Must look early this year (DH is an engineer and my background is science although I am a boring desk jockey now)....

BiddyPop · 29/09/2015 10:23

Sorry, make that Newton

TheGonnagle · 29/09/2015 10:26

Today my poncetastic candle arrived and I have put it away in the special Christmas cupboard. It is orange and clove scented from Rosy Rings in the US and it smells fabulous.
I very much love Rosy Rings, and wish they'd sell more stuff in the UK.
Starting to think about colours and getting my ponce on……
Sloe picking this weekend, and rose hips to make rose hip vodka.

Husband is going to America (and Asia and India but never mind..) before Christmas, any ideas what I should be demanding he brings me back? Last year he brought back elves on the shelves.

HapShawl · 29/09/2015 13:32

The York Minster shop is fantastic (though pricey postage)!

I have succumbed to a St Nicholas and an AB of York, plus a knit your own gargoyle (not for Christmas!)

milkmilklemonade12 · 29/09/2015 14:51

I'm going to try and dry whole clementines this week, I'll post photos. Does anyone have any tips?

Dachshund · 29/09/2015 14:52

Haha I grew up in York, finding all the Archbishop ornament chat hilarious!

AvaCrowder · 29/09/2015 16:13

What fun, lots of lovely ideas, I've been making a list but need a dedicated notebook.

I use real candles on my real tree. It looks and smells wonderful.

Trumpton · 29/09/2015 16:14

I love the bishops! I bought a nutcrack today and my wrapping paper. I'm wrapping in plain brown paper, and have A Christmas tree stamp to pattern it. It'll be green and gold stamps this year in keeping with my theme. And miles of ribbon.

I've also just bought a stock of polystyrene balls to make my own baubles. I blame this thread for my povertyGrin

LBOCS2 · 29/09/2015 17:11

I was given Nigella chilli jam and it lasted at least two years. It went all grainy after a while (about 18 months), where the sugar crystallised, but was still perfectly edible.

TheWoollybacksWife · 29/09/2015 17:22

Hopefully this photo will copy properly. These cones keep popping up in my Pinterest suggestions. Anyone know how to make them? I love the Nativity one and there are some fabulous Santas too - some of them are in felt and some seem to be quilted.

Ooh I like that!

TheWoollybacksWife · 29/09/2015 21:14

I've found a YouTube video! It's in Spanish but the demonstration seems clear enough - if I can get hold of a small polystyrene cone I may add this to my poncing list.

I still need limoncello and flavoured spirit recipes! Someone please inbox me Blush

Whatabout · 30/09/2015 05:02

I like it too woolly, up feeding the three week old but I'll be watching the video tomorrow and maybe see if I can find some materials :-)

Creativ 5-Piece 14.5 cm Polystyrene Cones www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0074HQEPC/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_a81cwbSCRNN79

zaphod · 30/09/2015 07:39

That does look nice and not too difficult. I have last years cone from making the string Christmas trees. The ones where you wrap string, or glitter wool/cotton that has been dipped in PVA around the cone and remove it when dry. They looked nice with those electric tea lights inside.

TheWoollybacksWife · 30/09/2015 07:55

A three week old Whatabout Envy

If anyone wants to have a go at a cone I've a fair bit (enough for at least 4 or 5 cones) of wadding left over from making a tree skirt last year. I can send some on as it looks like you only need a bit.
