Birthday theme Christmas decorations?!

Do birthday theme Christmas decorations exist?! Hmm

DDs birthday is 8 days before Christmas.
Last year we waited until the day after to put up Christmas decorations so on her birthday it was only birthday decorations.
But it was a bloody pain! All the decent real trees were long gone and two days of back to back fussing about with putting stuff up and down and up again was a pain in the ass.
I like having Christmas stuff up early anyway so this way of doing things really didn't work.

So I've had the genius idea of getting the tree up and decorated when we normally do but leave all other Christmas stuff until the day after again.
Then I started thinking about getting birthday theme tree decorations which I felt for sure there would be plenty of.
Seems not.

What do other people do with DC with close to Christmas birthdays? Confused

Our son has a birthday in early December, so we put decorations up the day after. We don't really do any birthday decs - cards, maybe a balloon or two if we're really pushing the boat out Grin

We have a fake Christmas tree. Could you put your tree up and decorate it with birthday baubles? And some big ribbon wrapped around/in bows at the end of branches. Easy to take off the next day and decorate for Christmas.

Failing that, just decorate as normal for Christmas?

My birthday is a couple of days before Christmas. To be honest, there was never this issue? The tree and decorations went up mid-December, the cards went up as and when they arrived in the post, my birthday was (and is) always my birthday. She made a big deal of it and made sure that I never got joint Christmas/birthday presents. The place was decorated for the day with balloons and stuff when I had a party so for that day the house looked like a Christmas clown had vomited all over the place.

In short, I wouldn't bother about delaying decorating or looking for birthday themed Christmas decorations. For one day you can have both up, maybe, but more importantly I think is the effort to make the birthday special rather than just another day around Christmas which I think your decorations idea might do. HTH!

Maybe decorate her room for her birthday?

LooseSeal · 23/09/2015 15:53

DDs birthday is on the 23rd, TBH I've never bothered with special birthday decorations, but I'm not sure I would do much beyond a happy birthday banner even if her birthday was in June. Instead I concentrate on making her birthday special and not letting it get lost in all the Christmas stuff going on.

My DBs is also 8 days before Christmas, and my DDs 7 days before. As others have said don't worry about decorations, just make it a special day that is separate from christmas.

ARockNRollNerd · 23/09/2015 16:06

What I was trying to say, in my rambling nonsensical op, was I want her birthday to be special and not just another day in the lead up to Christmas.

I love decorating which I fully understand isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the house gets decorated for all other birthdays and special occasions.

I like the bow idea, Conyo. Nice big bow, easy to put on and off. Birthday baubles would be great but Google is only wanting to show me Happy Birthday Jesus baubles which isn't quite what I'm after Grin
I like the idea of decorating her room, thank you.

Christmas clown had vomited all over the place. That did make me chuckle.

You're all completely right about making the birthday special which is why I was thinking of just the tree up so can still do birthday decorations without it being overshadowed.

What you're all saying really is that I'm being a bit of a tit putting this much thought into birthday baubles, isn't it? BlushGrin

My mum hosted a baby shower for my sister in December so she put the tree up and decorated it with baby socks and baby blue baubles. She then swapped them for Christmas ones after the shower. I would decorate with paper chains (non christmassy) and maybe make some out of salt dough in her initial or a shape she liked. The only thing with a real tree is that if you take decorations off you run the risk of losing needles so I would use bauble hooks and light decorations.

Leeds2 · 23/09/2015 16:22

One of my DD's friend's mums used to delay putting up the tree until after the friend's birthday (birthday was 23rd). Friend told DD she would much prefer the tree to go up earlier, and enjoy it for most of December, but she didn't want to tell her mum because her mum would be upset!

ARockNRollNerd · 23/09/2015 20:34

That sounds a lovey idea for the baby shower Never.
I hadn't thought of making some salt dough ones myself, that's a great idea!

Aww, that's a bit sad Leeds Sad

My birthday is a few days before Christmas but it never felt overshadowed. I loved seeing all the decorations going up everywhere as it meant it was nearly my birthday. It's a great time of year and everyone is in the festive mood, I felt it made it more special.

Definitely no joint presents, no writing happy birthday in Christmas cards and no using Christmas wrapping paper for birthday presents. They were the only rules Grin.

PjDay · 23/09/2015 22:40

Not on the high street do some lovely personalised decorations / birthday bunting etc.

mysteryfairy · 24/09/2015 07:31

I grew up with a tree going up on xmas eve. I've learnt on here this is common for Irish Catholic background - thought it was just us when I was little!

We still put up our tree late usually the weekend before Xmas and for the last few years I've bought a huge real tree in b and q for about £10 at this point. Obviously a gamble and I have a plan b but they've had ludicrous quantities left every year so try there if you do decide to wait.
