Dd6 is in to nothing. What does Santa bring ?

Secondtimeround75 · 20/09/2015 00:34

Dd turned six at the start of the month. We asked family for different bits and pieces to see what she took too.
So she got some playmobil, sylvanians, lego friends , my little pony and Barbie.
All opened and played with for 5 mins and not touched since.
She plays with her dog & cats ( real) and occasionally her stuffed toys.

I'm at a loss as to what to do.
She just isn't in to toys .

She has a well used bike & micro scooter .

Her siblings are teenage boys.

Can you cope with any more animals? If that's all she seems to be into what about a hamster cage and set up or rabbit hutch and a trip to choose a hamster or rabbit after Christmas?

GloGirl · 20/09/2015 05:50

Ticket to a zoo keeping experience?

Rainbowqueeen · 20/09/2015 06:29

Pogo stick?

Hula hoop?

Skipping rope?

RoganJosh · 20/09/2015 06:33

Roller skates? A basketball hoop? Swing ball?

NicholasName · 20/09/2015 07:02

Board games?
Easy electronic/science set?
Train set?
Books?
Dvd?
Clothes?
Afternoon tea somewhere posh?

Asleeponasunbeam · 20/09/2015 07:04

I can see why you wouldn't want to risk more of something she wouldn't play with, but some of the toys you mentioned are sometimes played with better when you've got more of them. My just turned 6 DD bought a new bit of Sylvania last week with her birthday money (a sweet shop) and the bedroom has been transformed into Sylvanian Land all week. They hadn't been played with for ages.

Different Playmobil? We have fairy land here... But also airport, swimming pool and basically an entire holiday resort.

Dolls house? Board games?

This is helping with my own Christmas planning - thanks!

Heelys
Arty sets/Hama beads etc
Books

(When I'm stuck, I give mine the Argos book and watch them closely as they go through it!)

GinInAJamJar · 20/09/2015 07:24

Crafty/art things - a giant craft jar such as this and some card to make birthday cards etc, or if shes mature enough some 'grown up' colouring pens and a nice book for her to do drawings in. Or a jewellery making set?

Cooking things - maybe an adult cake book (eg Mary Berry) and her own real mixing bowl/apron/spoon/biscuit cutters? Obviously this would rely on you having time to help her but all children tend to like things more if it makes them feel grown up.

A cheap digital camera and a childrens photography book?

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 20/09/2015 07:33

My daughter is similar, she loves her stuffed toys and her play kitchen, plays with our real cats a lot, goes on the trampoline in the garden, plays computer games.

I'm getting her a kidizoom camera for Christmas as her main present. She likes taking photos with her 3ds but I always worry she will drop it.

From Santa she will get a cuddly minion (she loved the film) and maybe some Minecraft books and toys. and then real useful stuff, like clothing or plates/cups, probably all from the Disney Store...

What about a CD player and a CD? Last year. Bought DD her own (pink, her fave colour!) CD player and the Now Disney album. She loves Disney and spends hours in her room just listening to the CD and singing along. Strangely she doesn't love the pink disney princess castle I bought her with real singing and dancing Cinderella and Snow White. I love it, I thught she wouod love it. Kids, eh...

Loki17 · 20/09/2015 08:43

You are describing my 4 year old dd. She does play with her toy shop a fair bit, but she has lots of play sets that cost a fortune but she has no interest in. For example, the sylvanian tree house, Elsa's lego castle, peppa pig funfair, the complete set of Disney Princess dolls, baby Annabel. She just isn't interested. She is currently playing birthday parties with her favourite cuddly toys, each of them have a home drawn picture inside of an old gift bag because she likes to give out party bags! MIL has bought most of the things above and is always disappointed when dd doesn't like them. I keep trying to dissuade her from buying but she is so insistent that she wants to spend x amount of money and always tries to get the big ticket items (so that she can out-do santa). I've given up trying to stop her and just let her waste her money. This year, dd is getting a microphone and stand and cd player for her main presents. She loves 'putting on a show' and singing so I think this will be perfect. I'm also going to get her a little desk for her bedroom too (I've seen a bargainous one in B&M) as we are putting some shelves into DD's bedroom to give her a little more floor space. We will also get her art and craft bits, some play make up, tattoo pens and board games. If your dd likes playdoh as a young child, how about a modrock set? You could make your own 'Great British Baker' gift box with basic baking ingredients, a nice apron, bowl, whisk and young persons recipe book. I'm considering doing that for my niece as she has so many toys.

Littlemousewithcloggson · 20/09/2015 10:05

What about a sewing machine? My DD makes things with supervision for her stuffed toys on hers - very basic things like sleeping bags, scarves, tunics etc
She also loves her basketball hoop, heelies (has now asked for proper roller skates!) and any outdoor toys.
She got ice skating lessons and horse riding lessons for her birthday and both proved to be a great hit.
The cooking set already suggested up thread is a great idea too and is now on my own list!

Littlemousewithcloggson · 20/09/2015 10:09

Loki mine didn't want to play with any sylvanians or similar until they had turned 5 despite me having already bought a kingdom of it because I love them and wanted to play with them

BuckBuckBuckBuckBuck · 20/09/2015 10:11

Defo roller skates!
Mine got Sellotape from Santa at that age as she didn't play with anything else, and was delighted with it (lots of rolls, some with patterns).

Secondtimeround75 · 20/09/2015 10:15

Great ideas, thanks.
Definitely no more pets Grin

I did wonder about that Asleeponasunbeam
My in laws will want to get her a toy preferably girly so I might get another sylvanians item .

We are going to a toy shop today to pick up their new catalogue.
This might give me more ideas.

I love the sewing machine idea Too.

What Playmobil has she got? We got DD (age3.5 at the time) the swimming pool one for Christmas last year and its played with regularly by all DCs friends - including DS (8), who has never been interested in anything like that otherwise. They love the water!

DS has just had a birthday and one of his favourite things was a crystal growing kit. His friends are all asking for one now.

Does she have one of the butterfly habitat things, where you watch the caterpillars become butterflies? Also loved by both my DC.

1122christy · 20/09/2015 10:53

If she likes animals what about the little live pets? You can get birds, turtles, mice, dogs and butterfly's with their cages. They move about or sing.

Pobspits · 20/09/2015 19:34

Books
Craft stuff
Camera
Tablet
Den kit
Microscope
Tickets / membership
Classes she enjoys
CD player and CDs or MP3

LetThereBeCupcakes · 21/09/2015 08:55

If she really enjoys being with the pets, how about vouchers for a junior dog training course? We do agility with our dog and it's a sport that's seeing more and more interest from children. Our trainer runs a juniour class and will take children from about 5.

autumnintheair · 21/09/2015 11:30

Lego, stuff like lego creator ( 3 in one and animals, cute monkey etc) my animal loving dd loved these but never into classic toys . craft sets, with help as she is not overly arty, so djeco sets which tell you what to do. glitter boards....

Secondtimeround75 · 22/09/2015 07:33

She used a birthday voucher to get
Roxy the pregnant dog.
Another 5 minute wonder.

I think frugal Santa will bring a few scooter & bike accessories .
Arts & crafts bits

There won't be many yrs where she doesn't want loads.
We'll save what we don't spend for fun days out.

My daughter, now 7, is similar but she does like her hexbugs and track. I'm think the next stop maybe scalextric.

May09Bump · 22/09/2015 07:45

Snap circuits?

oobedobe · 22/09/2015 19:54

My eldest just turned 7 and she is very similar - I always think the next playmobil set will be the one she will love, but really she is just not bothered! She does like the unicorn/fairy people and we have a few small sets that get a fair amount of play but you could show her the catalogue and she could care less!
I have also been pointing out Sylvanian families in toy shops for years but her eyes glaze over.
Things that she does like:
Building toys, not so much Lego (prefers duplo!) but magna tiles have been a big hit
Craft sets, not really colouring but making/building things (goldieblox, glitziglobes, mosaics, orbeeze)
Hexbugs, she just got the hexbug spider and loves it (also enjoys the smaller ones we have)
Stuffed teddys/beanie boos (plays with them in her room at night, prefers over dolls)
Charm it bracelet - just got for her birthday and loves it
Schielch toys (dinos, wild animals and fantasy stuff - had for years and still played with)
Kiddizoom action cam - like a gopro for kids
Books - she loved the kids encyclopedia and atlas she got last year
Magic set - we have the melissa and doug one and she gets it out a lot

Other good ideas for non-toy gifts:
Ice cream maker or zoku popsicle maker
science kits
robot dog/remote control car
something for outdoor fun - pogostick or skateboard?

Secondtimeround75 · 25/09/2015 22:48

Bought my first Christmas gift today

A Melissa & Doug jewellery making set. It has letters & beads with strings and clasps .

TK Maxx for £9.99

She can make chains & necklaces for her teddys.
