I'm buying Lotties 1-2-1 special teacher a present but rather than buy all the teachers in Lotties class something i was going to do the Oxfam unwrapped thing.

How does it work. Do you get soemthing to show that you have bought a chair or a table?

It's just that I was thinking if I got some soem of voucher thing to show what I'd bought I'd give that to the teachers with a box of chocolates.

I wanted to do the same - but couldn't fathom out how to use their website

Could someone help me too?

Katherine · 29/11/2006 10:23

I got a similar thing from unicef. You get to choose a card on the site and then enter what you want it to say. They then post the card to you (or direct whichever you choose). Our card has now come. inside it on one side it gives the details of the "gift" and on the other side is our message so I was able to address it to all the teachers from my kids. I expect you could leave this blank if you preferred to write it yourself. I chose a pencils for a school for a year as it seemed apprpriate. I wanted to do the train a teacher but slightly beyond my budget. I think its a great idea. The teachers must get so overloaded with chocolates etc

unicef site go to the inspired gifts bit

found this pretty easy to use. You can view the layout of your card and change it etc.

furball i couldn't fathom the site out. i tried to get three, two lots of school books for Ds teachers, and a fishing net for my cousin. I wanted the card/fridge magnets to come to me, so I could hand them out. However, it kept directing me to enter the teachers addresses, which i obviously don't know. So i'm confused now!

flipflopper · 29/11/2006 10:31

I did this last year for my dd's teachers, I got them the pencils and the books from oxfam, you get to chose a card and what message you want, who it is to and from, and they send it to you in the post really quickly.

I think it's a really good idea, I might do it again this year.

glitterfairy · 29/11/2006 10:33

I have done this for all of my kids teachers this year and got my mum a loo last year as well. I love thses presents they are great and have chosen cards and found the site very easy to use but then they all came to the one address so maybe thats it.

Hi TC, I got DS?s Reception teachers (2) the school books and the school diners from the Oxfam unwrapped site.
I got them delivered to me so DS can give them to his teachers before they break up for Xmas.
Both came with appropriate fridge magnets and a card, which you get to chose.
When you check out you get an option to add ?something extra? ? I got the Fair Trade chocolate covered mangos.

TeeCee · 29/11/2006 11:22

Thanks, I've done the Oxfam one but might do another one as well.

Christmas cards for goats! 1 message. Latest Wed, 15-Nov-06, 8:00:45 PM from fartoobuzzi

My kids have bought 100 school meals each. You get a card back from Oxfam unwrapped which you can add a message in and a fridge magnet.

So instead of expensive cards for their school friends, they have spent the money on this.

The school also take a donation instead of kids sending the teachers cards, for the same charity.

The school also do the shoebox gift appeal. They got over 250 boxes.

springerspaniel · 02/12/2006 22:00

I have bought a couple of small gifts for my husband but he is very environmentally friendly, very 'outdoors not indoors' and rather bah humbug about christmas so he is a right s*d to buy for at christmas. Just spotted the Christian Aid 'unwrapped' website and have bought him 48 ducks in Africa for Christmas - he will be over the moon! Didn't even have to leave the house!

santacutie · 03/12/2006 17:46

Ds got an Oxfam school desk lasy year as a present from great aunt - lovely idea...and we gave his grandparents a goat for their diamond anniversary...I'd be really happy to get a gift like this,or an adopted dog from a dog charity...esp. a greyhound....

hulababy · 03/12/2006 18:50

I used World Vision to buy a card for DD's class and teachers. You personalise the card yourslef online, and choose a gift to donate. On the inside of the card is a box whixh says what you have donated on their behalf. The card came within a couple of days.

Boleyn · 03/12/2006 23:50

My parents have everything and they still want to subsidise our Christmas. So I buy the something small each eg book or food for my Dad and then a joint goat from Oxfam. Trying to make a family. DS will try and draw a goat on the card .....

Parlour fun game - 30 second drawing of named items eg house, deck chair, ca etc - the only one which stumps everyone (save real artists who should not join in 'cos it's unfair) are goats!

NewLP · 03/12/2006 23:57

If you have ipoints you can redeem them for 2 school text books (100 points) or 100 school meals (120 points)

ipoints

Not 100% sure of the ethics of giving donations for free, but hey, if the needy get what they need does it really matter??

I used World Vision this year (see Hula's link below) for most of my family and I've bought the school books & library card (£8 & £6) for the teacher & TAs too. It's a church school so they can't bloody complain either

Easy site to use and the cards were delivered really quickly.
