What on earth do you buy them? They just say they will have money but I like buying gifts and as one is now in the Army earning money he cant spend he really doesnt need it! They hate being given vouchers, usually lose them............want to start now to ease the cost! Thanks :)

Girl - spa day? Pamper day? Boys I have no idea sorry

NeverNic · 02/09/2015 11:25

Is the boy on active service? If so home comforts, decent socks and photos would probably be very popular.

Decent perfume / aftershave. Investment coats or shoes. At that age I think you start getting into quality and lusting over items you cant afford!

ImperialBlether · 02/09/2015 11:29

Are they your children, so you have to buy major presents?

triplets · 02/09/2015 23:02

Yes imperial........all mine!

Small leather folding photo wallet for Army boy - Aspinal do some nice ones. Hip flask, iTunes credit, proper razor, pocket-watch for formal uniform, book him a traditional wet shave at the barber, kindle for on active duty loaded with books and magazines, subscription to the times online, traditional boiled sweets in a retro box, super-dry trackie bottoms, workout gear for PT, running shoes, fitbit tracker bracelet thingy (this coming from a military wife)

Leather jacket, boots or bag for daughter? Maybe some jewellery (Alex Monroe is a good choice) manicure on Christmas eve

Does your non-army son drive? If not some lessons perhaps? Tickets to a gig. Decent shoes/trainers... console games, wallet, phone case, shirt, aftershave, belt, boots, dressing gown/PJs, socks/slippers, movies/cinema bundle, cook book (especially if he can't cook, hint hint) electric hair trimmer/toothbrush - best ever is parent taxi credit for picking him up and driving him home at 2am on NYE :)

I don't know but I would love to know more about your family life. They are 18 - wow, you survived it. How has it all been?

Do they get on? A present they can do together when army son off duty - like a weekend away together?

triplets · 04/09/2015 23:28

mrspuddleduckie can I employ you every year! Brilliant, given me lots of ideas now :)
comingroundthemountain........survive is the word! My story is a long one, my life since 1994 has been a complete rollercoaster, lots of :( and lots of :) Here they are, 6 weeks old........their first outing to Tescos which took us over 2 hours because we got stopped every two minutes!

Is your dh ok triplets?, i am an infrequent poster, and have name changed over the years, but i know he wasn't well.
Many comgrats on the triplets reaching 18!

AsTimeGoesBy · 04/09/2015 23:37

I remember you too from a thread about cruises (under my old name), the triplets do make you distinctive, I hope your DH is well too.

ouryve · 04/09/2015 23:38

At 18, things that relate to their individual interests and tastes!

I bet that 18 years has flown. My eldest is 12 and I'm still getting used to the idea of my baby having zits and hair all over and being able to wear his shoes!

ouryve · 04/09/2015 23:38

nearly 12.

triplets · 05/09/2015 00:06

Gosh didnt realize I am so well known! My dh as some of you may know has battled cancer for the last 8 years, currently in remission. Then approx. 18 months ago he developed a tremor in his left hand which they put down to trauma from the treatment. The tremor got worse and other symptoms developed and he was diagnosed with Parkinsons last Dec. Bit of a double blow :( But he is doing ok, just gets him down at times but with three 18 yr olds we dont get too much time to sit and dwell.

Aw. Am please you have all made it through. And to think I was scared I might have twins (I've not).

AsTimeGoesBy · 05/09/2015 09:03

I can imagine they keep you pretty busy! Glad to hear he's in remission but sorry about the Parkinson's, my MIL has just been diagnosed with it too. I'm not stalking you, honest!

triplets · 05/09/2015 16:00

That's alright astimegoesby........how is your mil doing? Not sure dh is on the right medication as they seem to expect improvement but there is none.

Do any of them like travel of intend to travel? My friend has just given her dd (18 off on gap year) a journal type thing designed to write what they think about various cities and countries. It was lovely.

Tbh, Waterstones have a massive range of beautiful journals for young women of varying tastes; keen cooks, keen exercisers etc. have a look. You can order online lovely leather bindings for them too which can have their initials. Also have s look at not on the high street for unusual things you can personalise.

Loki17 · 05/09/2015 18:48

When I was a similar age my mum bought ten silly presents (one was a new hairbrush) and put a £10 note in with each gift. It was brilliant and very funny. For my 18th birthday I got a nice watch with the back engraved. That was lovely too.

AsTimeGoesBy · 05/09/2015 21:11

Similar for MIL, medication not really sorted yet but she has lots of medication for other conditions (cholesterol, arthritis etc) which complicates matters. She's doing ok though. Sorry, no helpful gift suggestions!

triplets · 05/09/2015 22:16

My daughter is very into art, doing art and design course so will stock her up on paints/pens etc as she gets thru so much. Trouble is she expects those to be bought anyway! I was thinking of concert tickets too as her friends go to lots and we cant always afford it. My non army son has just started driving lesson, he likes expensive clothes which he normally saves up for himself, if I buy its Primark! The most difficult is my young soldier!
