My neighbours are putting up fairy lights and decorations on the infamous blue tree

Yes that's right, the one that they chopped all the branches off and painted blue to match their garage. I guess it didn't look pretty enough for them now it HAD NO BRANCHES ON

I will get a photo after nightfall so we can all tut at them.

We have not worked out a way to do it except by leaving a window open and running the wire through the window - is that what people do? Seems a bit mad at the coldest time of year, so we just have lights indoors.

Here is a singing outdoor decoration. Apparently using them completely disables your spelling skills though, judging by the description ...

doormat · 27/11/2006 12:49

dh drilled through all the window frames in the old house and threaded the wires through
as we have dg he cant do that here

NomDePlume · 27/11/2006 12:49

Not great from a security pov either, franny.

Friends of ours feed the wires through into their garage and power the lights they have from there. The wire seems to fit in the gap between the door and the frame so they can keep the door locked.

Blimey

we have double glazing as well, and no garage near the house

I think people are just doing it out of their bedroom windows and leaving the top one ajar - I remember walking round having a good nose last year trying to see if there was another way to do it.

rofl

I remember teh blue tree well

HuwEdwards · 27/11/2006 12:56

blimey, I remember this monstrosity from last year...

Sheraz · 27/11/2006 12:57

That blu tree is bizare. I cannot imagine why anyonne would do that, I don't like gravel garedns either..but I luuuuurve tacky Xmas laights. WE live near a Xmas decs factory so can get stuff cheaper, go mad every year

NotQuiteCockney · 27/11/2006 13:09

There must be a good reason for the tree. Maybe it's an evil Wnaky Basket Wind Up tree? Which must be radically trimmed, and then painted blue, to stop its evil powers?

FrannyandZooey · 27/11/2006 13:12

God this is superb - from NQC's eBay find:

"THE 6 OF THEM JUST SIT ALONG SIED YOUR PATH LIT UP LITING THE WAY TO YOUR DOOR BUT WHEN SOMEBODY COMES NEAR THEM THAY STRT WOBBLING AND SINGING

THE SINGING CAN BE TURNED OF WHEN NOT REQUARD

THEN THAY JUST WOBBLE

thay sing

ho ho ho merry christmas and so on i have had 1 of theys sets in my garden for the last 4 years and thay are the favorit of all the children around where i live thay allways make the kids smile and thay are also my favorit i know i am going on a bit but these realy are worth it"

I hope no-one thinks I am just meanly laughing at this person's spelling - I am, but also really delighted at their overwhelming enthusiasm for these ruddy things

in fact I think I may have to buy some

I do in my more paranoid moments suspect another MNer of living over the road and doing this to their tree just to piss me off

NotQuiteCockney · 27/11/2006 14:02

Yes, that bit had me PMSL, the combination of spelling and enthusiasm really adds up to make for a great listing.

Ok, it's dark out now, where's the pic?

I have a vomity DS1, and a DS2 who is warm and coughing and on my lap demanding planes or something.

mummydoc · 27/11/2006 16:37

you don't like the blue tree but you do like a santa swinging froma banana....????? my first thought at pic of tree was OMG but same thought at swinging santa aswell...i think i better beat a hasty retreat now.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/11/2006 16:42

Hmm, I suspect Frances doesn't mind the santa because nobody had to ritually slaughter a tree in front of her house, for no apparent reason, to make the santa.

They have not turned the lights on

Maybe they are waiting for Dec 1st? They spent all weekend putting up icicle type lights on the gutters, and they haven't put those on either.

I don't see why enjoying Santa swinging on a banana, and not enjoying a tree being cut down and painted blue, are mutually incompatible.

"i know i am going on a bit but these realy are worth it"

I am still very happy about this person's listing. I wish they were my neighbours
