I wouldn't have a fake tree- I don't see the point. Which do you prefer?

Only. Ever. Real.

Ifiwasabadger · 26/08/2015 20:46

Real real real real. With you all the way.

NewLife4Me · 26/08/2015 20:47

Used to have a real tree when we lived in the country.
Now its plastic and much less mess to clean up, we are lazy buggers. Grin

Wait4nothing · 26/08/2015 20:57

Dh is allergic to most plants so not worth the risk!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/08/2015 22:31

We used to always have real but then we got one that was infested with insects . We invested in a really good quality fake one last year. I miss the real tree tbh, but the size and shape works well in the space we have and it was a lot less hassle!

BiddyPop · 27/08/2015 09:06

We use a fake the years we are travelling for Christmas itself to the DPs and DPILs.

But ANY year that we are at home for Christmas, which is more often now than it used to be, we get a real one.

I am actually contemplating putting up the fake as well as getting a real one this year, as I have LOADS of decorations to fill them.

SideOrderofChips · 27/08/2015 09:08

We use a fake tree some years. This year we're using the fake tree as ive been given a new 7 foot one!

Otherwise we get real.

AsTimeGoesBy · 27/08/2015 09:11

Real every time. There's a place near us where you go on a tractor ride into a forest, choose your tree and they chop it down for you to take home, just lovely. Can't beat the fragrance either.

ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 27/08/2015 09:15

Both, I'm a bit obsessed with trees so we have 4! I do love a real tree but like to have a potted one that we can re-plant and they don't come very big, so have one smaller real tree which has all the traditional decorations on it and then 3 bigger fake trees. I have taken several years to work up to that many as they are pricey but need somewhere to display my decorations habit.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 27/08/2015 09:15

Fake, unless I want DD to spend Christmas in hospital.

NeverNic · 27/08/2015 10:08

Up until the last few years always real, but we've had a few duff ones and we are never at home past Christmas day morning until the 27th so we have come home to dead, dry trees. I invested in a decent fake last year and add greenery to vases and the wreath to get the smell. Considering getting a real one for outside though

Kuriusoranj · 27/08/2015 10:19

We've always had fake and I'm ok with that. It used to be that we had carpets, pets, small children etc etc. Now it's just the way we do things. It does mean we can have the tree up for a very long time though.

dementedpixie · 27/08/2015 10:23

We've always had a fake one. less mess and it gets used year after year so is probably a lot cheaper

quesadillas6 · 27/08/2015 10:26

Fake at the moment. We'll get real ones when children are older and don't keep trying to pull it down. So quite a while away yet.

Chopchopbusybusy · 27/08/2015 10:27

We bought a really nice artificial tree for DDs first Christmas. She's now 21. We still bring it out most years. We've had a real tree a few of those years but to be honest the artificial one is so nice that having a real one just feels like a waste of money - and of a tree.

girlywhirly · 27/08/2015 11:39

Artificial here, I've had real trees in the past but on balance I prefer artificial. This year will be it's fourteenth outing and it is still looking good, in spite of a couple of years of cat climbing.

Chrysanthemum5 · 27/08/2015 11:42

We used to always have real trees, then last year we invested in a really good quality fake tree. It's lovely, but we picked the wrong size so it is pretty huge. Now DH wants to get rid of it, and get a smaller one - but I know we won't get what we paid for the tree so it's just a waste. I'm sticking with the huge tree! Grin

IssyStark · 27/08/2015 11:45

We always get real but I sometimes long for the compactness of an artificial tree. Plus I have a secret hankering for coloured artificial trees having grown up with a white one in the 70s.

HarrietSchulenberg · 27/08/2015 11:47

Real one on the occasions that I have £40 to spend on a half decent one (going rate round here).
Otherwise I have a good fake one in the loft.

MidnightDinosaur · 27/08/2015 12:15

The first 2 years we lived here we had real. Thy were gorgeous trees and I loved them but they just didn't last long enough in our house in the middle of summer.

So now we have a fake one. I had a budget for a fake one, went out to buy it after Christmas the 2nd year and all the trees were half price so I got a gorgous looking fake one that was worth double my budget for my budget. I'm very happy with it.

GoooRooo · 27/08/2015 12:17

Real. It's just not the same without it.

We've tried small trees in the past, partly to keep the cost down and partly just so it takes up less room but it's not the same as having an 8 footer so we're going back to that this Christmas.

Seriouslyffs · 27/08/2015 12:20

Real. I love the smell. I can choose one locally from a pub carpark and they deliver.
NEVER give a donation to your local school on the 18th and transport a very large dead tree home thereby trashing your car. Angry

boobubsmum · 27/08/2015 14:56

I desperately want a real tree but DH is The Grinch and barely tolerates the horrific sparse white fake we have. This year I'm going to insist we either invest in a good quality fake or get a real one!

goblinhat · 27/08/2015 15:10

boobubsmum- left to his own devices I don't think OH would have a tree at all.
I don't give him the choice. I go out and buy a whopping 7ft Nordman fir- it's in the door before he can say jingle bells.

I live a real tree, although we have a fake in the loft that we've used on years when money was tight.
