white and blue here with some silver glitter! but I have a stack of gorgeous glass and ceramic decorations that I can't currently use due to tiny folk. ooh ooh! I'll go grab my boxes of dangerously gorgeous decorations that I didn't trust DH to put in the loft!

Love the Scottish theme idea goblinhat, I might try that this year!

In the past I have done white /silver/snowy with lots of greenery (bit cold looking), jewel colours (lovely but didn't feel Christmassy enough) blue (hideous and only lasted a day!)- the last few years have been Scandinavian- white red and wood. I need a change!

swede- I loved the Scottish theme. I am a bit of a pagan, so all the lovely forest/deer/ antler/evergreen/log fire stuff fitted in perfectly. The house felt very magical.
We even had Scottish lobster and Turkey stuffed with skirlie ( oatmeal based), with cranachan ( raspberries, whisky, Scottish honey and oatmeal) for pudding.
Have a look at Scottish christmas on Pinterest- some beautiful ideas.

boobsmum- the Range is good for christmas stuff.

Mustn't get too excited just yet though. Halloween to come- and it's a Saturday, so all day to have spooky activities.

I bought tons of bright baubles in all colours in end of Jan sales and I am going to make a bauble garland for the fireplace and another long one to wrap around the tree. So It will be very rainbow this year.
Last year was tartan, the year before was cosy snug wooden style, the year before traditional red, green and gold and quite 50s retro, before that nordic red and white, before that a winter winderland with white, silver and pale blue. I have also done turquoise snd cream, just creams and pale golds, and quite a lovely christmas with browns, bronze, coppers and gold.
The loft is FULL of decorations.

I love red/gold/green in one room
white/glass/silver in another
I have some flameless candles (The Range) and prelit wreath and garland.

lights are white

I have some traditional decorations like The Snowman, tiny teddy bears, Father Christmas that go on the stairs

And YES to Hallowe'en. Shame it's only a day but I'm Grin it's a Saturday this year (I'm going to start decorating late on the Friday)

We aim to spend as buy as possible on Hallowe'en decorations , I make loads (ideas from Pinterest) for the house and garden. DD and I dress up to open the door to ToT ers.

My DC are getting too old for all the Hallowe'en malarky so I reckon my days are numbered.

Didn't proof read

quesadillas6 · 29/08/2015 21:23

Red, green and gold. I've got quite plain and simple stuff. When the DCs are older I'd like to start building a more exciting collection, but while they're young I'm keeping it simple. I'll always have plain white lights though. I'm not a fan of coloured lights.

Never too old for Halloween!

Always either red, silver or a combination of the two. I fancy more greenery in the house this year though, perhaps some wooden things too.

And with an 18 month old in the house, I feel my tree will end up being quite empty 'natural' anyway!

It is a challenge having a tree and a toddler but we always had one anyway.
You can decorate as you like from toddler height upwards- they can only reach so far, but they like a bit of fun too, so a few toddler proof decorations are fun to play with - easy to put on and off. I always have a real tree- one with soft non spiky needles are best, and a tree that doesn't drop, like a Nordman Fir. And secure the tree. I used wire around the trunk in a couple of places and secured to so the centre of gravity is slightly backwards to avoid toppling.

Ememem84 · 30/08/2015 08:05

We always get a real tree as have nowhere to store an artificial one.

First Christmas was black and gold - we have black apples and pears brushed with gold paint ; next year we had natural things so wood and slate.
Last few years we've been buying decorations as and when we've seen them - in sorrento I found a shop which sold decorations so I bought them (in May...) bought some in NZ last Christmas and a friend has bought one every year from harrods for us.

So as much as I'd love to have a theme....because we were in NZ last year and I couldn't have MY tree. I'm having all the things on the tree.

ipswichwitch · 30/08/2015 08:08

I do a red and white Nordic theme, with lots of wooden reindeer. I'm loving the Scottish tartan though ....
For the last few Christmases I've retired the glass baubles so the whirling dervish DC can't break any, and used a lot of fabric decorations. I made a load of red and white felt hearts and snowflakes for the tree, and have a lot of fabric/wooden decorations. I'll be heading to the woods this year for more greenery, and really plan to go to town on decorating :)
