I have had my dec up for over 2 weeks I have not got the hanging 1s up yet though. They get to dusty if they are up to long.

Like tortoise said, it makes the place brighter and the DC love them. There are 7 houses round here now with lights up outside and it looks really great, better then just dark wet yuk nights.

DD likes the HO HO lights that Tesco have. DS1 likes the snow man ones.

maybe next weekend after next (8th?) as anything earlier makes me feel odd.

We always put ours up on the 1st, it just somehow starts the Xmas month off. Our kids love the decs and can't wait. I am going to do it whilst they are at school and when they come home it will be ready for them.

Its so exciting when you have children especially children who are a little older and are so very excited about the whole thing. DS really believes in Santa and can't wait to visit him.

On Xmas Eve we let the kids empty their stockings too, we just fill it with little cheap toys and sweeties. It gets them even more excited.

Then when they finally go to bed DP and I have a bottle of wine and open our pressies as its too manic in the morning to think about each other. Its really lovely and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The 1st I can understand but why put them up in November?

laudaud · 27/11/2006 13:20

I put them up on the 17th December which is my birthday.

I am probably one of the only people in the world who as a child couldn't wait for her birthday party to be over and all her friends to go home. That was when my father went off to get the Christmas tree and that night we would put the decorations up.

Ours are going up today, we always make sure they are up BY the 1st of December, DH has a week off from work so he has been doing all the lights. The inside ones are on now but the outside ones aren't switched on until Saturday.
