How do they work? Do you have to plug them in to your indoor socket and then keep a window open or something?!

my d is an electrician and our outside lights do have to be plugged in inside .we actually do the whole of the front of the house !.you will find that you can still close the windows ok.it is also useful to get a timeswitch so that they will come on by themselves and then go off at the time you set .good luck happy xmas.

I plug mine in doors but shut the window on the wire! Its never been a problem.

I know you can get outdoor sockets but no idea how to wire them in!

I have the wires coming through the window and then closed and its been ok so far. I wont open the window now until I need to take the lights down.

Outdoor sockets are ok as long as it is one that you can close the lid down with the plug in the socket. I have 1 at the back of the house, but you cant shut the lid with the plug in the socket. It can get wet without shutting the lid.
I also have some lights that part of the wire has to be inside as it has a control box thingy on it. All my lights come off 2 double sockets. (4 sockets) with 4 socket extension leads fitted with 5amp fuse. and each light set plug has a 3amp fuse. 1 does the outside lights and the other one does the inside lights.
