I find that they prefer the clothes wearing option at church.

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 25/11/2006 14:40

The children & I will get dressed.. me in comfy clothes, ds in dungarees or whatever, dd will almost definitey be in some sort of dressing up costume.. last yr she was a nurse all morning and a fairy princess in the afternoon, opting to eat dinner in her underwear so she wouldn't get her clothes dirty

Dh will more than likely wear nice jeans etc.. and an old t-shirt until after dinner as he does the cooking and carving

faeriemum · 25/11/2006 15:02

we get dressed up because its the only time we get to actually 'dress up'

NomDePlume · 25/11/2006 15:06

We go to BIL & SIL's house for Christmas lunch and evening. We just dress comfortably

WideWebWitch · 25/11/2006 15:07

God no, it's just me, dh, ds and dd. So we may not bother getting dressed at all this year. I wouldn't dress up even if I were somewhere else I don't think.

BudaBeast · 25/11/2006 15:10

Yep. Black tie and ballgowns here.

Not.

I usually try for the dressy but comfy look (i.e. not too tight so I can drink copious amounts of champagne and eat lots without being cut in half by clothes.)

DH - jeans and shirt.

DS - buy him something new but last year he wanted to stay in Pjs so let him.

oxocube · 25/11/2006 17:33

we used to - guys in suits and girls in party frocks, kids in sparkle and glitter. That was when we did xmas at MIL's. Now there's no one but us so we usually just do 'clean'

foxtrot · 25/11/2006 17:42

I fling my posh pinnie over something comfy.

Last year we had the first Christmas without family and we all decided that we wanted to stay in PJ's. To make it a bit more festive I bought new Red ones for everyone.

LadyTophamHatt · 25/11/2006 17:50

Usually, yes but there no way I am this yr.

Not on your nelly mate!!

We're having xmas at home with just us thi syr so I intend to slob about all day

ParanoidAndroid · 25/11/2006 17:51

This will be our first year without horses so I know it won't be dirty jeans and wellies. On the other hand, we might now be able to make it to church so we might smarten up for that then back to old-ish clothes for lunch then big walk.

We do our dressing up on Christmas Eve when the whole family gather at my parents' house for supper.

Katymac · 25/11/2006 17:55

Last year I worn shorts and a swimsuit.....this year something very very warm as Christmas in Norfolk is freezing

pointydog · 25/11/2006 18:08

Not really. I try to look ok for the photos though.

DimpledThighs · 25/11/2006 18:37

pjamas for a lot of the day and then normal clothes with nice undies for dp at a later stage of the day

Issymum · 25/11/2006 18:49

We're going swimming Christmas Morning at the local pool - it's doing a 10am-12pm session - so there won't be much point in dressing up. I might throw on something Bodenesque for the 4pm service in Guildford Cathedral.

suedonim · 25/11/2006 20:23

Nice clothes here and also a pinnie while cooking dinner so as to make them think I'm a proper mother.

TheArcAngelTLV · 25/11/2006 20:26

not dressed up as such, probably a new top and something for dd and i have new PJs for xmas eve, xmas day and boxing day and so does dd

nannyme · 25/11/2006 20:26

The children wear smart stuff but despite my best intentions I usually slob about with the intention of getting dressed up.

I cannot get dressed fuly without a shower and there seems to be no time for a shower and hair wash when bloody Santa insists on dropping the presents on xmas eve for my children to get up at daybreak for.

TeeCee · 25/11/2006 20:30

Yes.

Girls will be in matching dresses (never, ever do this as a rule but the dresses rock and I think as a one off it'll be cool. One is 5 the other 1 yr old)

I'll be in a black gold, cream flower silk wrap dress thing from warehouse with leggings and black high heeled knee length boots.

If I was at home for it, not at MIL's with my dad and everyone else I'd probably stay in PJ's.

We all dress up again for boxing day when we have a big family party at my mums

Really, really looking forward to Xmas again this year.

pointydog · 25/11/2006 21:35

Wow teecee. SOunds like you'll look fab

LaDiDaDi · 26/11/2006 11:13

I'll probably be in black jeans and a top that my mum has bought for me from warehouse, grey with some sequins at the neck.

We all try to look sort of smart but comfy.

Gingerbear · 26/11/2006 17:27

lol @ Issymum throwing on something 'bodenesque'.
I shall be wearing my new slippers and PJ's, possibly a frilly apron over the top whilst slaving over a hot oven.

kickassangel · 27/11/2006 20:14

we tend to be in different places every year, but usually we surface when dd awakes (sometimes as late as 8.30) & have breakfast in pj's, then a little dressy - jeans & sparkly top - for rest of day. jeans, of course, start off reasonably loose & comfy, undone by the end of the day!

ParanoidAndroid · 27/11/2006 20:17

Issymum - is that the Spectrum? We thought we might do that too! Are they laying on anything special?

We're just south of Godalming.
