Gifts for 3 month old

I'm due to have a baby next month. Normally, I wouldn't bother buying Christmas presents for a 3 month old because she won't have a clue what's going on however my little boy will be 3.8 and is very much interested in Christmas this year and I don't want him to wonder why Father Christmas brought him toys and none for his sister.

So - what can I get her that won't be a hideous waste of money but enough to fill a stocking?

We did this but bought future stuff, a jumperoo, some board books, a nice teddy bear (unwrapped, sitting on top of the pile), wooden puzzles and just dolled it all out throughout the year.

If you're wanting bigger but cheap toys my lo loved squeeky eggs and bath squid squiters, you'd get both from amazon for around £12 and they'd bulk out her gifts easily, otherwise I'd suggest a thats not my princess/angel/meercat book, bath duck, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, rattle, all easily found and relatively easy on the wallet.

We already have a tonne of books, puzzles, a jumperoo and the Tomy eggs - this is the problem with a second child I think.

Argh. It's so hard! Definitely will add a soft toy though and a rattle, thank you.

I had a 4 year old and a newborn for Christmas a few years ago. I just wrapped up a few things I was going to use for the baby anyway, like bibs, feeding spoons, baby bowls, dippy cups, vests, some teether toys etc. I got a tiny light show for the ceiling, a few rattles and a play mat too, just so it looked like Santa brought toys too.

Ds 1 was so happy and proud helping the baby open his gifts! It's worth making a little pile and stocking for the baby. Helps Sith fairness and equality imo!

Omg so many typos! I'm sorry!

GoooRooo · 14/08/2015 14:40

Would it be madness to buy her something completely age inappropriate? I am thinking about a doll's buggy. She would be miles too young for it but DS would love to play with it I'm sure and he's a good sharer.

Ds2 was 2 months last Christmas day. Ds1 was 7 and dd was 5, so there's no way Santa wouldn't have left him stuff too!

In stocking couple of soft rattles, teethers, muslins, bibs and mini toiletries. Off Santa a blanket for his pram, babygros in next size up and a Paddington complete collection treasury.

We have however, impressed upon the older two just how much Santa loves recycling and that we're sure he will go in the loft next Christmas for ds2's gifts!!! (I think we have ELC toddler shop up there Smile )

We're going to be in a similar situation and aren't planning on buying anything big/ that we wouldn't anyway. We're going to do some fancy weaning stuff, dribble bibs and I was thinking of some of the Manhatten wooden baby toys. I also really wanted a bigger play mat last time round, so will probably get that too.

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 14/08/2015 15:05

Weaning and feeding stuff. Little tommee tippee pots, sippy cups, melamine bowl and plate and cutlery sets

Gro bags in the next size up

Pyjamas

Swimming costume

Inflatable seat type thing for the pool, arm bands

Artandco · 14/08/2015 15:09

Just get stuff you would need. Ds2 was 7 months first Xmas and due to almost 2 year old we got youngest gifts also

Just did a small sticking, with new sleep suit, a book ( can never have enough, and both children use anyway), and some soft leather slippers

NotSayingImBatman · 14/08/2015 15:20

DS2 was 6mo last Christmas and he got weaning stuff, a tacky Christmas jumper and some new bibs. DS1, who was nearly 3 at the time, really didn't notice or care what his baby brother had, he was too busy opening his own gifts.

Artandco · 14/08/2015 15:29

What do people mean by 'weaning stuff'? A bib? High chair maybe ( bit big for a stocking surely?)

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 14/08/2015 15:42

Weaning stuff - what I used loads when I weaned both DSs was ice cube trays, little pots with lids for freezing small portions, soft plastic spoons, coveralls and bibs, indestructible bowls and plates etc

Artandco · 14/08/2015 15:49

Ah ok. We just used regular metal teaspoons and normal bowls and plates. And gave them whatever we ate , so no ice cube trays and pots etc used.

themumfairy · 14/08/2015 15:50

a charm bracelet? then you could start the tradition of every Xmas getting her a new charm
something she could keep forever Smile

girlywhirly · 15/08/2015 10:05

What about some new buggy toys to grow into, and a selection of other items. Even a bottle of baby bath, a teething toy, or replacements for any of the smaller items you had for your son.

I used to make baby meals from scratch in big batches, (not pureed but finely minced) which I froze in little plastic pots. I used to send one every day to the child minder for my DS when he was around 7mo. We also took some to Greatgrandmothers because we knew her meals were loaded with salt. You can never have too many.

Equimum · 15/08/2015 16:57

We don't tend to purée, so by weaning stuff, I am thinking of fancy Jojo maman bebe bibs, a nice melamine plate/ bowl set, sippy cups etc.

Boutonneux · 15/08/2015 17:48

What about one of those lovely "year" bears that Harrods do every year? Nice and bulky and lovely to keep. My son (almost 15) still has the 2000 bear from his first Christmas Smile

MTWTFSS · 15/08/2015 17:56

Bath toys and some Jewellery she will treasure forever :)

SideOrderofChips · 15/08/2015 17:58

im giving birth next month too. im buying toys for him to grow into

NeverNic · 19/08/2015 11:35

We bought our 8 wk old last year a few new toys for the high chair, pram and bath and a personalised dressing gown from My 1st Years. It was packaged beautifully and is really lovely.
