And when is it OK to start listening to Christmas music? And making Christmas cards and paper chains and Christmassy pictures?

Advent.

Apart from putting up the decs, which should NOT be done until mid-december at the earliest.

Usually wait for the kids to break up and then we go Christmas Cerazee!
Had to start using my Christams name today as I was so excited that I'd thought one up.

Do all of those Christmassy things whenever you want!! Don't let anyone tell you there is a right time. It's all down to personal preference!

But personally - I won't put the Christmas Tree and decorations up until the 9th of December. And usually only listen to our Christmas CD the week before. As for making the cards, I will be doing that this weekend, to make sure they are done in time to post them off on the 9th.

God no!

A real one?

It'll be kindling by the time Christmas comes FGS.

You'll have a better selection of real trees the earlier you get it.

Then keep it in the garden shed, nice and cool, and remember to water it regularly.

Got excited an bought a HUGE non-shed tree last year on Dec 1st, which cost me about £40. Kept it watered, gave it love and the sodding thing still dried up and looked like a dead thing by Dec 20th. Had to take it down (would you believe) and stick DD's mini silver tree in it's place... Wasn't the same. Never again. I'm buying a tree the week before Christmas this year!

Ooh, never thought of keeping it outside for a while. . Might do that this year. Thanks Ready.

We put it up early last year (around 1st Dec), it did drop a lot of needles but it wasn't quite kindling, it still looked OK! It was watered a lot...

Well, we are moving house next week (YAY!!), so Christmas is not even thought about until after that. Although I will have to keep the Advent calendars somewhere I can find them on Friday...

I used to always do Christmas eve but DH likes to do it the weekend before Christmas and now we have children it will help to build the excitment. This year we are going to have a wacking great tree as we have moved to a bigger house and have the room at last. Even though I pretend to be a misery guts I am quite excited

We bought an eight-foot tree last year and had to chop the top off it to get it into our living room, it looked alike a big fat ball of tree

I get a bit carried away with lurid Christmas decorations too

In our tiny house (which we're moving out of YAY!), we had to cut part of the back off the tree so it fitted better against the wall, otherwise we couldn't get into the kitchen.

Can't wait for a HUGE tree this year .

We are putting everything we can up from 30 Novembre. Don't give a fig what other people think, me and the DCs can barely wait; would do it sooner but DH insisted.

expat, do you usually put your tree up this early, and will it drop all its needles and look like a dead stick by Christmas?

I have started listening to christmas music , but in my defence I am a childminder and have started to do christmas crafts with my mindees, Christmas music just adds to the atmosphere.

Decs are going up the 2nd weekend in December as thats the only spare time we have!!

If DD1's feeling better tonight, we'll make paper chains to put round the tree. I've got the paper all cut up.
