Have you been round Wilko's or £stretchers?

MerlinsBeard · 21/11/2006 21:29

if they like Noddy Toys r us have the airport for £9.99 at the moment, in store not online

MerlinsBeard · 21/11/2006 21:30

or games are on offer on wollies at the mo (hungry hippos etc)

nikkie · 21/11/2006 21:35

some at Lidl on Monday

NotSoupyOhNoNoNoShesOnABreak · 21/11/2006 21:37

These offer good size-for-money value.

pointydog · 21/11/2006 21:40

Ditch the sack. Or is it too late?

I find a big sock and a couple of presents loose under the tree gives no obligation to produce a particular volume of presents.

yomellamoHelly · 21/11/2006 21:47

How about a variety pack of cereal? Dh and his brother were bought them as a filler when their parents were hard-up and he still gets them. (Considerably less than a tenner too.) Ds loves his breakfast too and may well get some from FC too.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/11/2006 22:02

Oh bugger - you got me Soupy!! Should have looked at who posted before I clicked!

That 'amazing maize' stuff from ELC is bulky is cheap (starter kit £5 and refill bag £3).

dmo · 21/11/2006 22:10

woolworths/whsmiths and boaders all have big tins of activitys for example
magic tricks
build your own castle
build your own plane
make a purse
all round £5-£7 each

books
comic
football
paper plane
soft toy

love the idea of cereal will be doing that

JanH · 21/11/2006 22:16

Cereal is a fantastic idea - if there is a particular kind you won't normally buy them (eg cocopops in my case) they could have a whole packet all to themselves

VanillaMilkshake · 21/11/2006 22:21

Sticking with the food theme. I got a box of milkshake poder in my fav flavour in my stocking when I was little.

PeachyClair · 21/11/2006 22:22

Sam'd want those magic straws things- yeesh. But it is a good idea.

Asda have a variety of things in and theys eem to change daily- lots of board games cheap, and loads of other boxed sets of stuff, worth a look.

One year Dad made me a dolls house in wire filing trays to fill up the sack LOL. No idea why, they gave us loads, always did. I did like it though

SlightlyMadScientist · 21/11/2006 22:26

Done some of the ideas on the list already. There are definately some that I havn't done though.

Soupy - you wait until I get you...

You might think this is daft but carrying on with the made it myself thing..I remember getting a dolls cot made out of a mushroom box(with purple inside and broad metal handle). It had wooden coathangers as rockers and knitted blankets. It was one of the best gifts I ever got!

magicmummy · 21/11/2006 23:39

Something I have done in the past is wrap a small present, then put into a larger box, wrap that, then repeat with as many boxes as you can. Keeps the kids amused for ages on Christmas Day, unwrapping and opening all the boxes, thinking each box will be the last one.
I remember my sister thinking I'd bought her a box of A4 paper, a kettle, a box of persil washing tablets, etc as these were the boxes i'd used.

As an alternative, you could put a clue in the first box, so when they get to it, they then have to go on a treasure hunt to find other clues until they find the present.

I know we got a pink guitar and keyboard from asda last year.

Only about £6 each.

Sure i saw them again this year.

Didn't think they'd last too long as they were cheap, but they're still being played with.

Loads of 3 for 2 offers in woolworths, but that ends on 27 nov (i think).

Look in argos on the internet as they have clearance lines available.

fussymummy · 22/11/2006 00:30

Have just remembered, do you have a shop called 'The Works@ near you?

they do a huge box of craft items for £5 brilliant price for what you get in it.

fortyplus · 22/11/2006 01:10

Bag of popcorn

'The Works' is a great shop - Poundland also often brilliant for stocking fillers. Toys, games, crackers, torches, gel pens etc all @ £1 each.

What about a box of tissues with favourite characters printed on them.

Primark for clothes - cheap & cheerful with prints that appeal to kids.

Woolworths always do 3 for 2 on boxed games near Xmas plus dressing up outfits for about £10

SlightlyMadScientist · 22/11/2006 09:47

I think magic mummy may have the one - given that I have already covered a fair few of the options mentioned.

fortyplus · 23/11/2006 20:37

Yes - I've done the treasure hunt idea before, too, and it goes down a storm. SO exciting!

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 23/11/2006 20:52

I would also ditch the sack in favour of half a pair of tights (much more fun dragging in to mum's room )
