Actually np I think this is fine. It is something that you have thought out and considered for the person.

heifer · 21/11/2006 15:55

used to think it was really naff to receive such pressies - until I went to have a 'Heifer Pamper time' and couldn't find anything to use... had thrown it all out when we moved (as haven't used it for years)...

So if anyone would like to buy me some this year - will be greatly received....

It is just not something I would buy myself especially as money tighter these days, so Yes I think a great pressie...

paulaplumpbottom · 21/11/2006 16:25

If you were really iffy about it, you could always add a pretty shower cap, or a nice brush or some hair accessories to it.

Blackduck · 21/11/2006 16:30

I don't like it unless someone is giving me something they know I love/will use......

expatinscotland · 21/11/2006 16:31

I'm kind of a snob about toiletries.

nailpolish · 21/11/2006 16:38

Is it travel-sized?

I like travel-sized Origins and Molton Brown stuff.

Or travel-sized Aveda stuff, including this cool travel-sized candle they have.

But again, I'm a snob.

TheHighwayCod · 21/11/2006 16:47

ooh i got fab stuff rom boots today
rude it was

nailpolish · 21/11/2006 16:47

tsk you dont think my biotherm stuff is posh enough?

its not small enough to be travel sized, and it comes in a white leather holdall thingy

I wouldn't buy toiletries, so many people are sensitive to different brands and ingredients it's not worth the bother.
I have a few close friends with whom I 'Freecycle' unwanted toiletries and vice versa. We don't care if they've been tried and rejected, none of us can stand waste and so much of it just becomes bathroom clutter.

greenday · 21/11/2006 18:28

I don't like receiving toiletries. When I do, I usually think there isn't much thought given to present-buying. People have their personal preference about toiletries as well. So I personally wouldn't buy toiletries as presents unless they were for acquaintances, etc.

Skyler · 21/11/2006 18:44

I like getting toiletries as long as they are expensive ones that I would never buy for myslef! And I will buy them as a present but again only expensive ones, usually Molton Brown.
My SIL and I get on really well and I always try hard with her presents and I always get rubbish sets from her that I just know are 3 for 2 from Boots. How ungrateful am I . She did excel herself for my b'day though with Clnique and we have been shopping since and I introduced her to Molton Brown so fingers crossed for the future .

Skyler · 21/11/2006 18:46

Sorry, in answer to NP I think the hair set sounds good as it is not high street run of the mill. Did you get it?

sophy · 21/11/2006 20:01

Once I gave SIL some Jo Malone bath oil which I would have loved to have myself. Every time we went to their house I saw it sitting, unused, on the bathroom shelf. Was sorely tempted to take it back again, don't think she would have noticed, but didn't. Moral is never assume that even if it's really lovely expensive stuff you would love that the other person would like it too.

nikkie · 21/11/2006 20:01

I am quite happy to get any bath stuff , some years it lasts for months and I don't need to buy any!
From friend/clse family I would expect something appropriate though(ie I don't wear make up )

pipo · 21/11/2006 20:45

I love getting toiletries for Xmas - they make you feel pampered when you use them and there is no clutter when you've finished them. I asked for toiletries last year when my sil asked what I wanted for Xmas.

siang · 21/11/2006 22:33
