1 - Your children
2 - Partner
3 - Parents/In Laws
4 - Brother/Sister/In Laws
5 - Nieces/Nephews
6 - Friends
7 - Friend's children

I'm interested to know what others do. Was going set myself a maximum price for each present but am finding that it so easy to go over budget if I'm not careful. Where does it stop? Add the cost of the whole lot together and it's scary.

LaDiDaDi · 21/11/2006 09:33

1-£100, she will be 8 months and does actuallu need some toys and clothes
2-£185, more this year as I spent very little on his 30th birthday in April as we were skint after moving house.
3-£50 each adult
4-£20 on one bil
5-no nieces/nephews but spend £25 each on two cousins
6-£10 each on three friends
7-nothing, none of my close friends have children, I think if they did then we would probably stop buying or each other and just buy for the dc.

All except dp's presents are on a 0% credit card that we will pay off before it's interest free period ends in June. Usually pay straight away but I'm on unpaid mat leave at present.

Blimey- £100 on an 8m/o ... some people have a lot of money to burn.
I was feeling quite chuffed with myself for getting a bargin big pressie for our 8m/o yesterday. I spotted a sit and ride little tyes car 2nd hand for 3 quid. I'll scrub it up, add some new stickers and I think he'll love it once his legs are long enough.
I dont set fixed budgets for people, but would probadly baulk at anything over 25quid for any one except dh. for him I guess I'll be spending under 50 once I've decided which bit to get him for his bike.

1 - probaly come out at around £100 in the past, ish, I don't really keep a proper tally. However I have spent less this year though as I went mad last year and realised how silly that was, and now I have 2 girls and they both have birthdays v close to Xmas so I can't afford to go mad anymore. I actually have bought them a few 2nd hand things this year. While they are young and don't care, why not, it's still a good toy they'll get pleasure out of.

2 - Anything between £50 and £100, but as he spends about the same on me, what is the point really? I might knock buying each other Xmas gifts on the head and leave it to just birthdays only.

3 - About £20 each

4 - About £15 each or a joint presnet for about £30 ish, less if I can find something that's nice for less money obviously

5 - Between £10 and £15

6 - Don't buy mates preents anymore, save them for birthdays, it's all about the kids

7 - £10 - £12

schneebly · 23/11/2006 11:00

Neena28 · 23/11/2006 12:34

1 - Your children £50 each
2 - Partner £50
3 - Parents/In Laws £25 on pil, £40 on my mum, £50 on my gran
4 - Brother/Sister/In Laws £20 onmy sister, nothing for dp's brothers
5 - Nieces/Nephews £15-20 each (all 12!!!)
6 - Friends only best friend £50
7 - Friend's children only ds's best friend £20

Think that christmas has really become about the amount that is spent not the give and receive though which really upsets me. Would rather the kids had something they really love and play with rather than stuff for the sake of it. Ds will probably want/need a new bike and a computer next year so we will spend a lot more as a one off but his b'day is 1st Jan so it can get very silly very quickly.
