My DD is 2 just after xmas. This seems a really difficult age to shop for asmost good things are for age 3+. Can you reccommend anything good? Family are asking what to get her too...

Hi, This is a really tricky age isnt it. My dd is 2.5, She loves the wooden puzzles where you put the piece into the precut slot??? do you know what i mean?/, painting, the big giant floor puzzles. Do you have a little trampoline. Hours of fun- can be kept inside over winter if room?? Babies pram went down well too.

I always assumed that the 3+ thing is the manufacturer covering their backs, because under-3s are more likely to put things in their mouths so the manufacturer won't be liable for accidents.

so I have always ignored age guidance and just gone for what the child would like.

My DS was 2 last january and he liked then (and still enjoys);
tea-set and little kitchen stuff
dollies and prams and feeding them
jigsaws
pop-up crawling tunnel
hammering game
loads of little bags and baskets to carry around

Pop up crawling tunnel definately good fun as long as you prepared to slither through it too!!!

LucyJones · 16/11/2006 11:11

Does she watch Fifi or Peppa Pig? The playsets are really good

LucyJones · 16/11/2006 11:12

also elc Happyland stuff

LynnC · 16/11/2006 11:54

So far (between ourselves and family) we have got dd who will be 2 in January:

Kitchen set
Dolls house
Fifi doll
Fifi car
Barney doll
Keyboard with stool with microphone
jigsaws/books
Doll with accessories (high chair, bath, swing, bottles, change of clothes)
Hoover
Tea pot/cups
Washine machine with realistic noises/pull out drawer etc with ironing board and iron

Hope this gives you some ideas. A few things I have bought do say 3+ but just use your own judgement and what you know your dd will like.

Child's CD player - they love putting on their own music and are more than capable of handling them. "the triangle is play, the square is stop" etc etc...

stringbean · 16/11/2006 16:27

How about this lego dollset

Dd (who's 2) has one and it gives hours of playing time - it's a lovely set. The dolls are about 6 inches high, so perfect for little hands, and the clothes all fasten with velcro. It's perfect for when friends come over as there are four big dolls, so no arguments! This website will ship to the UK; you can buy the set in the UK but it's a bit hard to find (it's not available in the shops).

Cappuccino · 16/11/2006 16:37

my dd has bits of that dollset cos you used to be able to buy it when dd1 was a tot

it's fantastic; though we don't have the stroller

if anyone ends up with a spare ?

stringbean · 16/11/2006 16:55

You can buy the pram on ebay at the moment, Cappuccino. Search for 'lego doll' or 'duplo doll' - it looks as though one of the sets has been broken up and is being sold off in pieces. Think the pram is about a fiver.

Cappuccino · 16/11/2006 17:19

ooh! ooh! ooh!

firemaiden · 16/11/2006 17:19

arts & crafts stuff? ds at that age was really proud of learning to use scissors and was very keen on cutting things out and then sticking other bits together.

Bucketsoffrozendinosaurs · 16/11/2006 20:45

Handbags.

CanineCrapperoo · 16/11/2006 20:50

Definately get some Happyland stuff
dd1 had the house when she was 2 and is 5 next week and still plays with it.
