My mum normally buys theatre tickets so thats fine, but my brother always asks me what they want, which one the one hand is fine, but on the other hand, I think I now have the contents of the Argos, Woolies and Toysrus books imprinted on my brain trying to decide.

Gillian76 · 14/11/2006 22:41

Mine do.

nutcracker · 14/11/2006 22:41

I am making a list but it has lots of scribbling out on it.

My brother is off work next week so wants the final list by then. Trouble is, I decide and then something goes on sale and I change it etc.

I usually have to pick something for my brother too buy and something for my dad to buy, but as my dad is broke this year I am gonna think of one between them, if i can.

I mean does Ds really need a spiderman tent ?? lol.

I have to write a list for my mum, 2 sisters and my brother for our 4 kids. The only problem is all the ideas I have for presents go to them so I spend the next few weeks trying to figure out What we can get them

nutcracker · 14/11/2006 22:47

Yep thats a problem here too.

I'm having to think of birthday pressies for them to get Dd2 and Ds too so it's taking twice as long.

Oh and I still have no main xmas pressie for Dd2 who keeps chopping and changing her mind.

just remeber to write down what you have told everyone! My family do the same i just make them give me 2 weeks to come up with the answers!

magicfarawaytree · 14/11/2006 23:46

my family do but not dhs. mil thinks shes got the corner on original gifts and almost always duplicates something we already have.

LadyMuck · 15/11/2006 00:00

We write lists for gps, but not our bother and sister.

LadyMuck · 15/11/2006 00:01

Each ds is allowed to ask for 4 things (santa, us, each set of gps). They nominate what Santa will be asked for and then I divide up the rest between the gps. Dead mercenary in the Muck house.

BudaBeast · 15/11/2006 05:37

Most of my family ask. And MIL sometimes.

nappyaddict · 15/11/2006 15:36

my cousin asked me what to buy ds for christmas as the thing she wanted to buy him was from 9 months and he is only 6 months and she wanted to get something he could play with now. i hate doing this cos how do i know what is an appropitate amount that they would want to spend and i would also like to be excited finding out what he has on xmas day not know months before hand! although i guess it is better than havin something he (or i) will hate!

Enid · 15/11/2006 15:40

my mum USUALLY does

but she hasnt this year which is a disaster as it means she has bought something RUBBISH

Willow2 · 15/11/2006 15:42

Never sure if someone asking "what do the kids want" is because they don't want to duplicate a present or buy something unwanted... or just because they are a bit lazy when it comes to choosing presents to fit the person. DH's sister took it one futher the other week - having been asked for ideas as to what DS wanted, I rang her up to tell her what she could buy and where she could order it online. Her response? "Great, well you get it and I'll give you the money." Do you think I should wrap it as well? Don't want to put her out and all

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 15/11/2006 15:44

ive chosen the presents my brother and SIL have bought Jessica, they have no idea what to get Rebecca - and neither do we.

Ive chosen what Jessica is getting from my dad, but again, have no idea what he will get rebecca.

The rest of the family either send parcels that we know nothing about or money so we can go and buy them something!

My Mum demands an extensive list from each of the four of us so that she has lots of choice. My MIL has now cottoned onto this and wants similar. This also gets shared with the sisters/SIL. Last year I circulated one list between all of them. It was a nightmare. They all kept going shopping at the same time. And I was forever ringing round saying "xxx has got madagascar DVD" "yyyy has got Killers CD", "zzz has got shopping trolley". So this year I have split them into two and my Mum is whinging about short lists.
