Hi

Just wanted to know what people do when they're NOT celebrating Xmas?

We just watch all the movies on the TV and generally doss around waiting for the shops and life in general to start up again.

Any suggestions for something more fun to do?

No experience as we celebrate christmas but go on holiday to somewhere that doesnt celebrate christmas.

Cant imagine living in the UK and not celebrating christmas, must be a bit of a nightmare.

Why dont you make it more fun by having a special meal instead, something like well turkey for example? You could also give eachother presents too which might liven up the day. How about a glass of bubbly at breakfast and be really decadent. You might like to cheery up the house a little and put a plant in the corner, something tree-like with a few glittery things on it perhaps.

Go for a long walk in the park - its usually quiet and sunny on Xmas day.

Wouldn't Trifles suggestions be rather like celebrating Christmas?
No personal experience of this but always wondered what it must be like for families who don't celebrate considering what a massive fuss there is at Christmas?
Do your children want to join in with all the santa stuff?

My dd is only 2. We have our own celebrations throughout the year that we celebrate.

When I was growing up we used to put up stockings because my parents didn't want us feeling left out, but we knew that it wasn't something that we celebrate-just for a bit of fun really. When my dd is older we'll probably do the same so she doesn't feel left out but we don't do the whole Xmas tree and decorations etc etc thing.

I suppose if you don't want to celebrate just carry on as a normal day - apart from work, shops etc. do what you usually do. Maybe some DIY or gardening so you odn't feel that you are obviously NOT celebrating christmas - but nothing major so you feel like you are making a point.

Clear out under the stairs or kitchen cupboards - something the children can join in with.

Ask any Jewish or Muslim mums (or others that don't celebrate christmas) have the same issues and what they do.

other thread got a bit out of hand - but there are some interesting ideas in it if you read through but I am not going back there.

I hope you are able to sort out your christmas. As I understand this is new ground for you.

How about a big spring clean and DIY fest with involving the whole household (maybe when your dd is bigger LOL.) Followed by a feast of frozen party food in the evening, an hassle-free reward for all the hard work you've done.
