Christmas Trees

What sort of trees does everyone go for? We have moved house this year to a house with nice high ceilings and last year we agreed that we would have a new tree this year. Not sure whether to go for a real one which I reckon will probably end up costing £20 or more, make lots of mess and end up being recycled or should we spend between 3 or 4 times that this year and get a really nice artificial tree that will then come out every year. Where is a good and reasonable place to get artificial trees?

We have really high ceiling too and get a real one and if you cut of its bottom and water it they don't drop

They are expensive but I love a real tree

and they are more interesting as they change each year

I love real trees so we always have one. You need to get a non-drop one and quite tall if you have high ceilings or otherwise it doesn't look right... But artificial trees do look more realistic than in the past. If you want one that's going to last a good few years it's probably worth paying a bit more - I think you actually need to go out and look at them in the shops though.

We always have a real tree, we usually get a spruce, they dont drop so much.

You really cannot beat that smell, i love it!

JackieNo · 13/11/2006 11:56

But I do find that the non-drop ones don't smell nearly as nice.

jabberwocky · 13/11/2006 11:59

I love a real tree. There is just nothing like the smell. Having said that, in our current house there's not a terrific place for a tree and I was given a fab retro aluminum one a few years ago so we've been using that. I just get fresh boughs to decorate with for the scent these days.

We have a fake one 6ftish(but its starting to droop)
We did get a smaller real one last year for in the dining room, but dd1 was allergic so it ended up in the back yard.

I love real trees. Went for a false one once and it just didn't feel right. Got rid of it and now always go for real again.

I'm guessing mn isn't your best option for advice on artificial trees. But I like being wrong soetimes.

We have a lovely artificial tree. It cost £30 I think from tesco 3 years ago. Xp2 did get a real one that year but I could not stand the smell. So we put it out in the garden and got the artificial tree instead.

With the artificial tree , I dont have to worry about trying to get a tree (on my own and dont drive) and I also know its going to fit in the lounge. If I did like real trees, I would find it hard to get the right size tree. It can be talk but it must be thin as my lounge is not very big.

SherlockLGJ · 13/11/2006 21:50

which I reckon will probably end up costing £20 or more...................

And the rest.......Low ceilings.....£50 minimum, would not have it any other way. TBH

fuchsia0703 · 14/11/2006 11:24

Well I've seen a feature on our local market - it quotes prices on the ones that are supposedly non dropping at £15 for a 6 ft tree plus £5 for delivery.

Ah you see. The thread has died.

joelallie · 14/11/2006 16:47

I pay about £12.50 for a 7-8ft real tree. Don't touch the trees at DIY or garden centres - they will be either way over-priced or ancient and will drop their leaves. Best place would be Forestry Commission or somewhere that grows them and cuts them just before they are sold.
